Great. Which product exact? Can’t find anything about Elements on their website.
See here: Vibracart Pro
If you scroll down towards the end of the page, in the Comprehensive manual section, you will see Using Vibracart Pro with Elements.
Thx
Ruh-oh! Dev Packs shouldn’t be distributed, they need to be compiled before customers use them.
Details on Pack distribution can be found here, and here’s a high-level bulleted list as to why this is a no go:
That said, Dev Packs are fine for internal use. If you’re collaborating with a small team, doing client work, or running a closed beta, it’s okay to share Dev Packs privately for testing and feedback. Just be mindful that these packs aren’t encrypted or optimised, and should never be used as a final delivery format.
But you can’t do that yet?
Correct!
Information on converting your Dev Pack into a distributable Element Pack will be available soon.
So just for further clarification, are you saying that I shouldn’t be using any of my own DevPacks on my production site until compiled packs are available, or is it just distributing them that shouldn’t be done?
No, that’s fine!
Check out the docs for the do’s and don’ts and let me know if you need anything clarifying.
Just to clarify.
I have the dev packs available for download as they are free and many existing clients are now asking for them so they can get on with developing their sites. I don’t see any other way to distribute them yet? I will be happy to use the Marketplace once that is available.
The main problem is they are not performant, and have not been compiled, this means Elements is monitoring ALL files inside of a dev pack (so you can see live updates when editing), however macOS has a limit on the number of files that can be monitored… this will cause issues in Elements for users. Here’s a bit from the manual that explains more:
Element Dev Packs are for internal use only. Do not distribute or sell them.
An Element Dev Pack (.devpack) is designed strictly for local development. These are uncompiled and unencrypted versions of your components that allow for live editing and testing during development.
Every file inside a Dev Pack is actively monitored by Elements and the system, which enables real-time updates as you work in third-party editors, a huge benefit while building components.
However, this live monitoring comes at a cost. If too many Dev Packs accumulate over time, Elements (and macOS) can run out of file handles, leading to components failing to load or update. To avoid performance issues and ensure system stability, Dev Packs must never be shared or sold.
Before distribution, all Dev Packs must be compiled and encrypted into standard .elementpack files. This process protects your code, improves load times (down from seconds to milliseconds), and ensures the pack is safe and optimised for use by others.
We’re actively working the service to encrypt and distribute Element Packs, but it’s not ready yet and we don’t have a firm timeline (yet).
What I would suggest is that you share the add-on privately with users that want to beta test it, and make sure they understand that they will need to switch to the marketplace version later this year (hopefully).
I know this is far from ideal, but Elements is still young and we’re trying to make sure we do this right, this time. It’s going to be great, thanks for your patience.
Let me know if you have any more questions about this!
Hi Dan,
I understand what you mean but you are encouraging users to make and publish sites using Elements now and my clients need Sitelok and/or VCpro as part of their site. I am not widely promoting the dev packs yet but existing clients do need to be able to access them.
