Now that I’ve got two live Elements sites (heading for six), version management is now on my radar. I want something in the Settings/Setup area where I can track version and what I changed, and I want that to be recorded into the site file for later reference.

No, I don’t want Github. What I’m thinking of is something that on a new Publish event iterates a number (e.g. mmddyy##) and allows me to type a note about what I changed. Or maybe this is just a new thing in the dropdown for Publish (e.g. Annotate Version). Or it could be a new panel in the Project Settings (e.g. Version Notes). But I need something to help me start retaining the knowledge of what I’m changing and how versions are different.

I’m loosing track of little things… anchor scroll adjustments, html scripts, and new processes and procedures… got to remember xyz

Logic Pro is the same for me.. do a specialized function every 6-7 years - but forget how I did it and have to search the process again…

Final Cut also - but in this case - don’t use the software enough for retention…

Very happy with elements - especially when I discover a time saving option…

Very good idea :+1:

Why don’t you put a notes page in project and record all you want in there?

I actually do just that: I have a page that isn’t linked to in my CMS section that contains notes.

If I remember to type them ;~).

What I’m asking for is something a bit more automated and remindful. Basically the act of publishing typically means I made changes, but if I’m in a hurry, I forget to update my notes page and the usefulness quickly breaks down.

Thom I know you are but just thought I’d suggest to Michael to help him TIA

This is an issue that I was thinking about a lot last week.

I know that @Dan says that us potential developers have exactly the same mechanisms for publishing as they have.

However as any developer knows, that’s not the whole story.

Being able to to publish with a push of a button is potentially dangerous.

I would want to see published fallback procedures but most importantly the ability to test (a la beta test) with selected clients before release.

You can’t tell me that RealMac release updates without testing.
