OK - fixed that !!
Next - having settled on my layout for teh homepage - how do I make that universal … ie have the same format show up in all the other pages - ideally with the same header and footer etc
Short Version - Design your header and get to how you want. Make it a Global. Place on each page.
Same with your footer.
Really - as a global … but I’m only getting two - so basically I don’t get to use globals with my licence … crap
I knew I was going to hate my base license.

Workaround #3: Upgrade to Plus license.
You can create two globals per project, but you can use them in your website as many times as you like. This is perfect for a header and a footer on every page.
If you do find it an issue in the future you can easily upgrade your license in the Preferences.
