I tried to paste a global from one site to a totally different site but that didn’t work.
I can’t find anything about it so here’s the question; is it possible to use a global
on different sites or do you have to build it again?
That is very strange that it didn’t work.
I do this all the time especially when creating a new site. I have a project where I keep and build globals that I will need across my sites, then whenever I need one I go copy it and paste it into the site I’m working on. I just did it now and it worked perfectly.
I should point out that when I do this I make the selection in the editor and copy from there.
Did the page have any content in it? There’s a small bug where you can’t paste into empty pages. Try adding an empty container, then pasting in the Global. That should work!
And yes, this pesky little bug is on the list to fix!
Thanks Dan!
Thanks. Nice idea to collect the globals that way.
Pasting into blank documents has been fixed in the latest build (0.8.5). Just make sure you give the editor focus first by clicking into it.
Hi Dan,
I took a container put a picture in and a background, and a menu and a reveal with text, turned into a global that I named Pipo and dragged it to another site. Its no longer recognized as a global by the name Pipo or a global at all but just a container and it also no longer has the pictures that I put in inside it, it still had the text from the reveal.
Is this true or am I just f*ckin things up?
Also, I had two sites open and pasted the global Pipo from one to the other.
I did not unlink the new container and when I pasted a new picture in the container it affected/cleared the picture from the original site. And vice versa. When you past a global from one to the other you have to unlink it and turn it into a global again with a new name. Right? I am a little behind on the video’s so possibly this is old news.
Cheers Theo
I’m surprised the dragging worked, we don’t yet support that. Are you able to reproduce it? Can you share a screen recording with us?
In the meantime, you should be able to copy and paste just fine between documents. If you’re still having issues with that can you share the document (via Elements Cloud), along with the stepos to reproduce the issue so we can get it fixed up
Just to clarify: Globals are NOT shared between documents, they are only Global to that document. So when you paste a global into another site, it becomes its own instance and is not linked with the original.
Hope that all makes sense.
Hi Dan, you can now view the sites. They have been uploaded.
Besides test 1 and 2 also have a look at the other two and you will see the influence a global has unless you unlink it.
