Sadly when I did my first “play” with uploading I had my proper address in settings general and a “play” folder setting in my publishing settings, it did not work @differentdan asked me to change to both same and it worked. Just speaking from experience.
OK, but I have a website with three separate publish locations (local, staging and production), all with different website addresses and that works well.
Probably needs @tpbradley to give us the definitive answer on how it is meant to work. 
You’re right, the “Override Website Address” field in publishing settings only needs to be filled in if someone is trying to override the website address in the General Settings field (like publishing the same site to a staging domain or different TLD altogether, etc.). What we see is a lot of people putting something like https://example.com in the General Settings and then https://www.example.com in the “Override Website Address” field in publishing settings which isn’t really right.
It says the settings are incorrect and wants me to update settings.
I took out the override and nothing different happens. It still tells me the settings are not correct. It’s really strange because I can browse of the host and choose the correct domain and directory, but still can’t publish.
I was looking at the wrong general setting. Found the correct one and now it’s working. What a relief. Thank you to everyone.
