Updating to FormLoom 3

I’ve just started using RW Classic 8 again after a long time and I’ve received a message that I need to update FormLoom to version 3. Apparently this is no longer owned by Yabdab but by Joe Workman. I can’t find an email address for Joe, does anyone know what it is? Or is there another way of updating this?

Also there’s a message come up to update Stacks. Is this necessary to be able to use RW8? NB I’m intending to rationalize my sites using Elements, which I have bought a licence for, and I’m only intending to use RW8 to update a couple of things on my sites which I’ve discovered aren’t working, so I’m naturally trying to avoid any extra purchases which might be redundant.

If you’ve purchased Elements and are planning on rebuilding your sites with it, then I would personally suggest holding off on any Stacks purchases as that seems like it’d be a waste of money.

What’s not working on your sites at the moment? Perhaps it’s something that can be fixed without unnecessary purchases..

Hi Daniel,

Formloom isn’t working. It’s only set up for people to contact me with a Captcha barrier, so nothing complicated. I’d like to sort that out to make it easier for people to contact me. Is there something else I can use.

I did wonder about dispensing with Formloom altogether and just having a regular html page with the email address, but I also want to avoid masses of spam.

Best wishes, Jan

Hi @JanSteele

Sure thing, in the interim you can use a service like https://letterbird.co/ which gives you a free contact form you can embed on your Contact page. We recommend this service as it’s really simple to set up and embed on your Contact page, and it’s free… :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you that seems very useful. I’ll check it out.

Best wishes, Jan

Ok I’ve experimented with that and decided to use the pro version in order to get more fields in the form.

In RW, when I look at it in View mode, the initial heading (outside the field boxes) doesn’t show. I used a basic RW html page to put the form code in. Is that the right thing to do?

Jan

You could use the HTML page, did you check the option in the Page Inspector to apply the theme to the HTML page?

Should be one of the tabs in the Page Inspector, it’s a checkbox you select to make sure the theme is applied to the HTML page..

did you check the option in the Page Inspector to apply the theme to the HTML page?

Yes I did.

Hi @JanSteele

Can you link to the page where the new Contact Form is on so we can take a look?

Hi Daniel,

Actually it seems that the update has now propagated and it looks ok in browsers. There are a couple of changes to make but they are Letterbird issues not RW ones. For some reason it still doesn’t have the heading when viewing in the RW app, but that isn’t really a problem.

Best wishes, Jan

Hi @JanSteele

Happy to hear it’s looking ok on the published site. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you encounter any other troubles feel free to let us know.

Thanks for your help. I won’t hesitate to be in touch if there are any other issues.
