Using WebP in Elements

I’m starting to see WebP gain in popularity around the internet, and based on head-to-head file sizes with JPG, I understand why.

The Elements docs say that WebP isn’t supported by the Image component, but was wondering if anyone had real world experience.

I’ve done some experimenting, and it looks like they work fine in normal usage, but don’t work for iMessage preview.

I’m running a site with lots of images and switching to the WebP format could make a big positive difference in my load times/site size.

If you’re using WebP in Elements on a production site, have you hit any issues?

WebP works without any issues or limitations for me. I use WebP for all my images and haven’t had any problems so far.

I use WebP on all five sites that I maintain and have not encountered any issues with it yet.

WebP is all I use inside Elements. Documentation must need to be updated.

No issues with iMessage preview using WebP?

I couldn’t get webp to work with the Images component with any effects applied so I reverted to .jpg

Just started using webp - slowly transitioning - anything new is webp

What type of effects were you trying to apply?

I can get a shadow effect added to a WebP image without any problems.
