Wondering about BlueSky website intergration

I have noticed that BlueSky seems to have more integration with your website then the other social networks do (or the ones I’ve heard of do.) I like how it uses your website name as its social media handle.

I’m curious if anyone has an account they use with their site? Many people on RW use Chillidog and I wondered how easy it was to set up BlueSky through Chillidog? Can you open a BlueSky account and have it working on Chilidog in a few minutes? I’m thinking about making an account for all the sites I have on Chilidog.

This setup seems so different from other sites that store all your data on their on their specific site.

I recall reading an article recently (maybe wasn’t so recently) from someone recommending don’t try to host your own instance of BlueSky yet as it’s not fully fleshed out.

They recommended just signing up on the main instance that is ran by BlueSky themselves.

With that said I doubt it could be installed on Chillidog (but ask them of course). Forgot CD has VPS hosting, you could probably host it on a VPS there maybe.

The guide here seems pretty thorough and recommends cloud service providers Self-hosting a Bluesky PDS and using your domain as your handle

I wonder what parts of it are not fleshed out? I hope if there are broken parts they get fixed soon since the idea of not being tied in to one system greatly appeals to me. Keeping the brand consistent with the handle is such a great idea. If my main reason for opening the account is to promote a site it would be helpful if users can see the URL every time they reply to me.

I was thinking about asking Chilidog in a bit too. The tutorial videos I found on YouTube didn’t mention having problems with a particular ISP but that is a good thing to look into and think about. I just noticed your edit mentioned VPS hosting so when I ask them I’ll ask about that too. Thanks!

I updated my post, I think I might have read that article awhile ago because I was reading about how to do the same thing at the time. Seems like it’s more easily doable now.

You probably read it back when it was in beta? Yeah I can see why it would have been rough back then. Probably had a lot of trial and error with such a new feature set that they were experimenting with at that time.

I got my BlueSky handle to show up as a URL! It wasn’t terribly hard. I Just had to add a new txt field in cPanel with all the relevant data BlueSky gave me. If you go my account you can see that the handle is listed as “@learningtowalkagain.life” rather then the standard BlueSky extension, very nice.
