Saw this post on Mastodon yesterday and I have to say, I very much agree!
While AI certainly has its place, the trend in using AI generated image slop in blog posts and announcements is pretty gross.
What’s your take on these AI generated images?

I feel the source, assuming it’s legal and ethical, is irrelevant. The important part to me is appropriateness. Not only “proper” but does it bring any value to the conversation? Does it serve the anrticle other than bringing color to a page?
For me, my purpose will be served with cartoons. AI does a pretty good job on this. I can ask it to create art in a certain style with certain elements and totally serve my purpose. Probably better than hiring an agency and spending thousands of dollars to get almost adequate results.
Just like the quality of the code you get from AI will depend on the model, prompting skill, and task. And, the model you see today are the worst they ever be. Tomorrow they get better and the next day better ad nauseam. AI is just a tool. I remember when the first laser printers hit the market and users had access to a bunch of fonts - sickening how bad the stuff coming out of those printers was then. Same thing with AI images.
