Chillidog now Exact

What a disaster. Support sucks.

Now I gotta move a bunch of sites.

It does indeed suck, but if you’re looking for a new host with exceptional support, we got you covered

I will check out your hosting Dan, try this…

Warning to you all that were customers of ChilliDog Hosting. ChilliDog were fantastic! They have been bought by Exact Hosting, congratulations to Greg and co but for me it has been an unmitigated disaster.

First they managed to change the nameserver address of one of my sites on a Friday evening, Their support was unavailable until 1pm UK on Monday so the site was down for 2.5 days. Of course I could have put the name servers back if I had known that is what they did, but why would I suspect they had done this?

Then on the same site I updated the DNS records to allow MailChimp to authenticate, the authentication simply did not work and after several days they admitted that the new settings had not been propagated to their back end servers.

As a consequence of this my client tried to send batches of 20 emails via their webmail service (RoundCube). After the 1st batch of 20 the email was blocked from sending due to abusive behaviour. It said that I had to change the password and enable 2FA to unblock it.

I have been in touch with their ā€˜support’ people for days explaining that 2FA is simply not viable for a large group who use this email. They are a very non technical group. Exact then stated that it was impossible for them to unblock the email address and I should do as it says and get everyone in the large group to use shared password manager to handle 2FA, given the group we are talking about this is ridiculous and impractical for anyone using a group email.

That is how it is left! They resolutely say they cannot do anything about it, which frankly I find preposterous, they suggest their sever admin people cannot fix this?

How I wish ChilliDog was back, but good luck to Greg et al.

My advice, switch to another hosting company (from Exact) before they make your life misery.

I’m not finding much info… server location(s), data limits, is it cpanel?, etc

We’re just getting the marketing site setup, but have onboarded a lot of Element customers already that seem very happy.

Here’s a quick overview of the plans we offer:

Starter Package (Ā£12/m) - 1 primary website (unlimited addon domains, subdomains, and domain aliases), 10 GB disk space and unlimited bandwidth per month.

Freelancer Package (Ā£24/m) - 50 websites (unlimited addon domains, subdomains, and domain aliases), 50 GB disk space and unlimited bandwidth per month.

Business Package (Ā£49/m) - 100 websites (unlimited addon domains, subdomains, and domain aliases), 100GB disk space and unlimited bandwidth per month.

You can learn more about the service here in our docs, and no (thankfully) it’s not cpanel!

If you have any specific questions, @differentdan will be able to you out, he’s the hosting guru around here

Good to know this ^–^

too expensive for me..already get more for less..sorry was looking forward to elements hosting.

Our hosting isn’t for everyone. We’re not trying to be the cheapest, we’re trying to be the best and fastest…

If you like the level service and support you receive here for Elements, we think you’re going to love the support we offer for Elements Hosting.

Our feedback from early testers has been off the charts :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

how do you measure ā€˜ā€˜fastestā€

@differentdan has been working hard to configure the servers (and locations) to give the snappiest performance possible!

so how do you measure it…how long a page takes to open? surely that depends on so many factors like how fast people internet speed is? etc. if theres a problem you going to be able to fix it 24/7? personally never had a problem with speed

Hey @Godber

Great questions, I’ll try to answer them based on experience.

if theres a problem you going to be able to fix it 24/7?

For major issues like a server is down or websites aren’t pinging then absolutely yes, we have set up server monitoring that polls the servers every 60 seconds, and notifies us immediately on multiple channels if it detects a problem. In that case we can rapidly investigate and fix it.

For individual smaller scale issues, those will be handled Mon-Fri during normal business hours (UK) with limited off-peak and weekend availability (although I usually pop in outside of normal business hours anyway :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) . While some might say ā€œI can get 24/7 support elsewhereā€, that might be true on paper, however generally those late night and weekend support reps are level 1 and can only handle the most basic of issues. Anything more technical or involved will almost always need to be escalated to level 2 or 3 tech support, and they are not working middle of night or on weekends, so for those small ā€œonly meā€ issues you’d likely be waiting on a solution regardless of being able to speak to someone immediately.

No worries at all, we know our hosting might not be for everybody. If you are happy with your current host, by all means carry on with them! :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve said from the beginning, we aren’t going to be participating in a race to the bottom on pricing, because nobody wins there. I’ve worked directly in web hosting for 7 years, and indirectly for another 6 years, and I can confidently say those looking for cheapo web hosting are going to get what they pay for (in this sense the phrase rings true). During my time in the industry I’ve migrated thousands of customers away from those types of web hosts, for the exact reasons you’d think (overcrowded servers, terrible performance, non-existent customer support, the list goes on).

If you are looking for a web host that:

  • Offers quality web hosting by experienced professionals who know the ins and outs of web hosting and RapidWeaver Elements (and Classic).
  • Has tuned their servers specifically for RapidWeaver built sites.
  • Provides five star support that’s on par (and rivals) luxury retail/hotel chains.
  • Truly cares about handling all the technical stuff so you can just focus on building your website and get on with the rest of your day.

then Elements Hosting might just be for you.

If you have additional questions feel free to ask. As always you are free to try our service anytime with no commitment to see how you like it.

I think this could be a good brand slogan for us….

Out of this world web hosting, and our support doesn’t suck…

not after the cheapest but I get 50gig and unlimited email accounts and 24/7 support and everything else your basic one offers for Ā£7.99 a month so certainly not the cheapest also for the first year its@2.99 a month and 1 maria database not having email is a non starter if your relying on third party people as that can throw up additional problems…elements is a top program and wouldnt want any other software. im hoping thats not going to suffer if you try to be jack of all trades etc ect

ive been with my host 10+ years and touch wood the only problem ive had was getting elements email form to work..like many others but at the moment its ok

also you didnt answer my question…how do you measure speed!!! cos that relative!!

That’s all fantastic, if you’ve been with your web host for 10+ years and never had a problem, why would you want to move away in the first place?! Stay put!

I can’t answer that question, indeed it’s relative. I’ve had customers complain about sub 1 second page load speeds… so :man_shrugging:! (These were mainly WordPress users back in the day, they seem to really care and obsess about every last millisecond they can squeeze out of the various Page Speed Testing websites ).

Hi @jwDave

So sorry to hear about all those troubles, that sounds like such a nightmare!

I did receive your email via support ticket and answered your questions there. If you have any additional questions feel free to follow up with me in that support ticket, happy to help. :slightly_smiling_face:

I did want to change to elements cos I like everything in one place sorry.

So then give us a try? You’re more than welcome to join! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We don’t make you sign a long contract/commitment. The hosting is month to month so you can cancel anytime. There’s also a 30 day money-back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied. :slightly_smiling_face:

Feel free to reach out to me at support@realmacsoftware.com if you want and I can help you get set up. :+1:
