We’re back to our regular schedule, and in this week’s Dev Diary, we cover a bunch of exciting new features and updates in Elements… including the Marketplace API, the Elements Forum Bot, Templates, and a brand-new addition: Resource Packs!
We’re aiming to get a new build of Elements out this week. We’re working as fast as we can, however we want it to be as stable as possible, so it might slip to early next week. Stay tuned.
This week’s video is a long one, so I’ve added time-stamps in the YouTube description to help you jump straight to the parts you’re most interested in.
All these new features means Elements is now more extensible than ever. Everyone will be able build and distribute (soon-ish once the store is live) Element Packs, either for free or as purchasable add-ons.
An Element Pack can contain one or more add-on types, including any combination of the following:
With version 1.0 just around the corner, now is a great time to jump in and start building your next website. Visit elementsapp.io to pick up your copy today.
Thanks for Your Feedback
The Elements app evolves directly from your suggestions, and as always, we’d love to hear what you think so far. Your feedback truly makes all the difference
Good thing I started working on a collection of icons that I use across my projects, now I will have an easy way of managing them in one place and sharing them across all of these projects.
When I see your screenshot, I just want to ask @dan:
I really like that we can customize the workspace, and I always have the node list there, but could also like to have resources available always. However, I often work on the breakpoint for laptop (1280, I think) and I know it’s not a huge issue, but the zoom will be like 93 % on my 24» Retina. As said, not a very big issue, but would be able to let us size the panes even more down? Maybe also shrink the text in the node list etc?
Well, not the main thing to focus on, so take this as a side note for the very last thing to check out… I should really just get the biggest Studio Display…
Love to see the work on the templates, components, themes and resources, and that they all now soon can be put in packs. This is something I’ve always wished I had.
It’s also great that every user can make their own packs - if it’s for own use or for sharing, and that it’s possible for people to share free or paid. I think the MarketPlace will be fantastic and engaging.
Also great to hear that CMS is coming, and that forms are getting a touch up. Not that anybody complained… But, seriouly, I just can’t wait to test it out. Will be a needed feature in so many websites, and it will be great to test it out.
Will there also be something like the CMS-stuff for databases, like MySQL or so? I guess most things will be cool in the CMS solution, and it’s always possible to code if needed. Just curious.
Oh, and I really hope to work in the new build this weekend…
That is great! I wanted to say that it will be really nice to have a set of most common svg icons as resources in Elements, social media, + - and arrows for accordions etc.
Looking forward to play around a little with this next build!
I hate you! (not really) All that work I did in January on Social Media buttons and the with your help got it down to a tee and now this! I think I am going to give up with Elements - Joke - as everyday I find templates is doing everything we have been on the journey to getting - but hey what I’ve learned how to do things which would now appear to be drag and drop. So well done and keep smashing it I think we may end up with the lazy mans web builder where everything is just click and drag! Just a nice cookies opener would be great now!
We have a new build just about ready… but we have a rule that we don’t ship BIG updates on Friday, as it can be a little stressful. For example, if something goes wrong late Friday or over the weekend, we might not be available to fix it and ship another build due to other/family commitments.
We’re now aiming for Monday/Tuesday. Sorry for the delay!
