Dev Diary 89 - New Project

Hey all,

In this week’s dev diary, we go over a few new things in the world of Elements, including updates to the Marketplace, a new project, and briefly touch on how Elements compares to Stacks + Foundation. It’s chock-a-block full of tidbits and info!

Along with the Landing Template, we’ll have a new build of Elements out shortly… stay tuned for both :raising_hands:

In case you haven’t watched it yet, here’s yesterday’s video comparing Stacks to Elements. It’s worth watching just to see how far we’ve come :exploding_head:

Move to Elements Today

With version 1.0 just around the corner, now is a great time to jump in and start building your next website. Visit elementsapp.io to pick up your copy today.

:speech_balloon: Thanks for Your Feedback

The Elements app evolves directly from your suggestions, and as always, we’d love to hear what you think so far. Your feedback truly makes all the difference

Thanks again!

See you soon,

Amazing!

Don’t forget CMS… :face_with_peeking_eye:

Thanks for your message! I actually do mention the CMS towards the end of the video. so it’s definitely on our radar and part of the roadmap.

I totally get that it’s something you’re eager to see, and we are too. That said, the CMS is a complex piece of functionality and we want to make sure we do it right. Rushing it would only lead to compromises, and that’s not how we build things.

We’re moving at a fast pace (possibly faster than you’re used to seeing with indie software), but some features just need more time to get right. We appreciate your patience, and we’ll share updates on the CMS as soon as we have something more solid to show.

Appreciate the support! :raising_hands:

You do it perfect, like always!

So, no need to worry for the CMS, we’ll all love it, and it can just be better and better and better… You get the picture…

I got “bothered” by a customer right when I was going to watch today’s video. How rude…

So, YouTube is on the telly, so I better watch now.

Yesterday Joe W posted a similar message to the “message” you are giving in you Stacks v ELEMENTS video above obviously biased the other way. I told him off and now I will do the same. IMO and as an older wiser person, you should never slag off you competitors.

The facts are at this moment in time Stacks needs RW to work so if stacks and foundation are bad that is because the platform they are built on has limitations. Yes I know that RW is old style and yes I know ELEMENTS is new style and if you look at all my posts I have been very positive about ELEMENTS. It’s a baby and I appreciate that and you are doing amazing things. However if I had written the page on Stacks like in your video I would know exactly where everything is and I would have stylised as I had gone along and knew where everything was.

More importantly there are lots of things that can be done with the mature Stacks system that you can now do with ELEMENTS.

I was always taught by my life mentor, never to waste emotional energy on the “opposition” as this will cause stress! If you want to be better than them then promote was best about you but never what is worst in them. So forget STACKS v ELEMENTS and let’s showcase the best of ELEMENTS.

At present it’s like comparing apples with pears, or an old 5 1/4 floppy with a USB stick. Irrespective of what you think people will make their minds up, they will continue with STACKS on new APP, Switch to ELEMENTS or even keep both. Thats their choice. My neighbour has a classic car, I have Electric but we both enjoy our cars as much as each other. The point I am trying to make is this is an ELEMENTS forum so lets share and showcase the best of ELEMENTS and embrace the future!

Yep. When I started that video I cringed. Then it just kept going. After 2 minutes I turned it off. It is the only video on Elements I did not and will not watch so far.

I have been in similar situations in life and I learned the hard way!:joy::joy: now at my age I can’t be bothered, especially in this heat!I always showcase the best of my products and never slag off competition. I just let them slag me off!:joy::joy:

The video was a comparison, it’s easy to forget that many RapidWeaver Classic users still aren’t fully aware of how different Elements is, or how far it’s come.

And just to be clear, at no point did we “slag off” the competition or anyone’s work. The tone was intended to be light-hearted and in the spirit of those old Apple vs PC ads, not mean-spirited, just a cheeky and proud comparison.

We’ve got a lot of respect for what’s been built with RapidWeaver Classic and third-party addons. People have created some amazing sites with them. But we also believe Elements is doing something genuinely new and exciting and we want to shout about that, especially for users who might be considering making the move.

At the end of the day, people should use the tools that work best for them. We’re just trying to show what Elements can do now, and let people decide for themselves.

If you’re a Stacks user who’s on the fence or not quite sure what Elements can do, this video is for you. If you’re already using Elements, feel free to skip it and hang tight for the next Dev Diary

I said it was IMO and I did not see this in the video as being lighthearted and as a northerner who speaks his mind - sorry, it has not changed my opinion about the video. I am not the only one who thought the same. If this was aimed at “ Classic Users” then posting it in the Classics forum would have been OK, but putting it here with people who know ELEMENTS is brilliant IMO was not necessary. I love this forum and think its one of the best Ive been in but lets move on and THANKS again for the hard work you’re doing and I will get stuck in to new update tomorrow!

Maybe it’s me but I thought the video was fine. For those that use Classic, it showed how much easier it is to develop websites with Elements.
Just my opinion, I don’t see it as bashing the competition
