Dev Diary Ep55 — Huge New Pro-level Interface Upgrade

This is big. Like really big. :rocket:

Everyone has their own vision for how the Elements UI should be laid out. Instead of trying to create a one-size-fits-all solution, we’ve done the impossible: you can now configure the UI exactly how you want it. :tada:

We began working on this UI overhaul in late 2024, and I’m thrilled to share that it’ll be available in a beta later this week. Watch the demo below to see how this takes the Elements UI to the next level.

Once you’ve seen this you’ll wish every web design app had a user interface this flexible :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@dan That is amazing! What a superb job @tpbradley has done! :grinning:

One thing I could see as being useful is to be able to save different panel configurations and be able to switch between them depending on what you are doing.

Also you could set up a config, save it play around a bit more and then decide to revert to the saved config. Also, the ability to do an Elements reset and restore to factory shipping defaults for the panel layout would be good.

Fantastic stuff - Elements is suddenly starting to feel much more professional/polished!

Now do the property inspector. [ducks]

Good interface flexibility.
Definitely needs ability to save as many different layouts as you would desire.
Also, any layouts do need to be available across all projects.

Wow, this is incredible! :tada: The level of flexibility you’ve brought to the Elements UI is truly next-level. :rocket: Being able to configure the UI exactly how I want it is a game-changer—this is what every web design app should strive for!

Can’t wait to dive into the beta and explore all the possibilities. Amazing work! :raised_hands:

This is indeed exciting if I can just figure it out!

This is absolutely mind blowing. Everything I could have wished for to make my worflow as effortless as possible. Congratulations on taking this major step forward with the UI. This should put Elements in a different league.

As mentioned in some of the other comments I hope to see a means for saving a WORKSPACE configuration to make it easy to have several suited to the task at hand.

@dan @tpbradley well done, you made my day.

Now I have to wait with bated breath for the new beta to arrive.

BTW, I also saw some interesting custom classes and a contact form in the window I hope you’ll be sharing more on that in the near future.

Yep. What everyone else is saying. Great work.

The missing element is saving your workspace. Let me emphasize why that is: initially I’ll be designing my sites, and I like your components/nodes/settings panes side-by-side for that. But when I’m running and adding to my site, pages becomes the main pane I want, and I’m not sure what the second one should be (probably components in case I want to add something to the page). So I can see myself wanting to toggle between those two setups. I’m sure I’ll figure out more, and then there’s the issue of (a) working on my big extended desktop machine versus (b) working on my MacBook. I’ll want different workspaces for that, too.

FWIW, that’s the way I’ve worked with Photoshop ever since they first added workspaces. I have three predefined ones I work with, plus a MacBook one. Nice to be able to just pick them from the Window menu.

Dan, the UI is brilliant. Two things:

  1. I had mentioned in a previous post that I’d like to see bolder category titles (see screenshot attached). Is this still on the agenda for the UI?
  2. As requested by logrunner Jon, it would be important to save your chosen configuration/s and be able to toggle between them, rather than have to set up the UI changes each time.

Man that‘s absolutely amazing :+1:

As said by some others don‘t forget a menu item or so to save the settings and maybe a menu item to restore the delivery conditions.

Would love to try the beta out. Would help me in some big decisions that lay ahead!

Have just dropped you an email with the details :+1:

Absolutely agree with this approach. Specifically, I’d like:

  1. to save each configuration with a name
  2. to have the configurations available from, say, the ‘Window’ menu and be available across all projects
  3. a checkbox/radio button option under Preferences>General that allows the following:

Marvellous, will also make learning to work with Elements easier.

This is some seriously brilliant work. @tpbradley and the team! Please know the suggestions being made to tweak it a touch more are not criticism. They are “I want to have my cake and eat it too” expressions. This is awesome!

I don’t know what I am missing, I have the latest BETA but can not move any of the panels. I click on the node browser, it does not turn blue, and when I drag it no blue line shows, I can not move any of those tabs.

Mac Mini Pro M2 with Sequoia 15.2 Elements b29 (23171)

The BETA with these UI changes has not been released yet. It is due sometime this week.
