ECMS 2.0 Blog Setup Tutorial Request

@dan Would it be possible to provide another explanatory video for the CMS, especially for the blog setup?

Ideally, this could perhaps be based on the blog from

It would also be really helpful if it included an explanation of pretty URLs, the corresponding .htaccess entries, and how to properly use the canonical URL.

I think that would help many users when setting up a blog in the way we normally expect one to work. The microblog example isn’t quite ideal, since in that setup the blog sits directly under the homepage.

This is what I said exactly in my post yesterday too. I feel that it’s the missing bits on set up that are now causing me headaches today having been happy and setting everything up on the online editor yesterday. It was a lot of try and fail until I got it.

Alright guys, I’ve got it working now.

Attached you’ll find a demo project file that allows you to set up your blog like this:

elementsapp://downloadDocument/5bnqwPEAlYh8

  • www.my-domain.com/blog/ (for your blog post collection)
  • www.my-domain.com/blog/my-blog-post/ (for an individual blog post)

I’ve also included the matching .htaccess file with the required entries. Depending on your server setup, you may need slightly different rules.

Please make sure that you name BLOG (Posts) and BLOG (Post) correctly.
Take a look at the screenshots for reference.

Hopefully that means you can now really get started properly. Have fun with the new ECMS 2.0.

I agree. I am totally lost as to how to setup the CMS. I’ve been watching multiple videos but they all seem to be different and the elements in the actual version have nothing to do with those in the videos of just a year ago. I can’t seem to find a video that explains the whole process of setting up a blog, be it online or the simple one. THANKS!

Very nice of you…

I see many having a hard time…
The new micro blog was just updated

Open it - look at the inspector settings and folder structure

After awhile it starts making sense…

Perhaps this will appear in Thom Hogan’s ‘LittleCMSbook’ soon

@JohnTC

John I am just about to delete a video I created a couple of weeks ago for a friend {i do talk in this), it was not meant for the general use. It starts from a blank edit screen, not even a page, adds title, date, body text and an image. It was a one off single take, no script just straight from my head. If your interested I can dm you the link, I am about to delete anyway so no probs if you are not interested. It assumes you know how you want to format your actual page as this just gets straight to the point.

It maybe of no use as I chat to my friend on a regular basis about Elements.

Hi Steve. Yeah I would really appreciate this! Don’t understand what the Dm the link means but thanks!

it just means ill send the link to you not post here, as I said it was a one take recording off the top of my head, not really for general use, ill add the twig code needed as per the video, you can use the date twig code in both pages.

If it had been for general use I would have had a script with more thought/explanation

Let me know if it makes sense

Well, all sounds like another language to me :stuck_out_tongue: but I appreciate the video… I understand it will help me set up for the new online CMS

not the online version but you need this part anyway, the online version should

be easy once this is setup,

you should have a message from me now

Got it! Thanks a lot

The process is fantastically explained much appreciated… Can I now abuse and ask you where you got the thing called twig? where all the code can be found.

This is from the video

Amazing! You are a lifesaver

Not “soon” as I’m in Africa on another project at the moment. But I will update the book, and hopefully Realmac will find a way to put it in the store.

No probs that is only part of CMS capabilities

We’ll be adding more documentation and video tutorials over the coming days / weeks, stay tuned

Yes I have finished with the video thanks Steve!

Still I can’t get this and the online CMS working together so I must be doing something wrong. Look forward to a complete video done by Ben or Dan to help fully understand the whole setup.
