Elements Users: Can you help with the Gallery Component?

Hey All,

We’ve had some mixed feedback on the Gallery Component, it seems to work fine for most users (and flawlessly in our testing), but there appears to be a a few users that are still experiencing issues :grimacing:

We obviously want to get to the bottom of this and ensure the Gallery is very robust and “just works”.

We need your help!

If you’re running the Elements beta can you build a test page with a gallery and report back? Oh, and don’t forget to answer the poll below!

Does the Elements Gallery Work for you?

  • Yes, perfectly
  • Kinda, but I hit a minor bug
  • No, I hit a show stopping bug

If you voted “Kinda” or “No” can you post a reply and let us know what bugs you found (and what system, browser and Mac you were testing it on).

Have a great weekend!

Cheers
Dan

@Dan, could you share a link to that file so we can simply try it ‘as is’? I’d think everyone testing the same file would be a good starting point. You may have shared it somewhere else but having it here will make it easier for anyone who’s missed it.

see video cant seem to break the gallery but had an issue with adding a gallery - tried this multiple times before this and had same issue, have to keep dropping to get it to work thought the only time I had an issue was on mobile

even dropped a video but that does not play in browser only in Eleents but gallery still work

Apple M3 Pro
Sequoia Version 15.2 (24C101)
Safari Version 18.2 (20620.1.16.11.8)

Of course, here’s the project!

works fine for me on my Mac

OK, still broken here.

I click on any image and it goes to the first image and the navigation is unresponsive. I’m on Sequioa (15.2) on an M1 Max MacBook Pro using Safari (Version 18.2 (20620.1.16.11.8)). I turned off all ad blockers and it made no difference

I also tried with Chrome with the same result. (I don’t use ad blocking in Chrome).

In Firefox it’s somewhat different. Clicking an image correctly opens that image but clicking on the navigation instantly takes you to the first image and the navigation stops working. If I don’t use the navigation (I click the ‘close’ icon), I can select other images and they display correctly.

Probably unrelated but something I’ve noticed, the first image displays in the gallery as landscape but when it opens in the lightbox it’s portrait. All the other images display as per their orientation in the gallery.

Edited to add further information…

Worked here

Hi,
When I click on a thumb, another image appears in the Lightbox.

Hi @dan
it is not working bug free on my side. Looks different in Elements preview than in the Browser (Safari 18.2, latest Seqoua 15.2)

That’s how I see it in Elements

And it looks like that in Safari. So the navigation menu is overlapping the picture. The menu bar is totally usable, I can click on the menu items and it then jumps to the single pages.

Just recognised another thing (guess it’s the same than @annebourdon and @trinube already reported). I am not always getting the correct picture shown in the Lightbox. When I click e.g. on the first picture, it is correct. When I close now the Lightbox and click on another one, it shows again the first picture. You can do this with every picture. The next one you are clicking is often (not always) showing the previous one.

Hang on, there might be something more at play here. Mine doesn’t work in Elements either - I assumed it needed to be previewed to display.

When I hover over an image (in Elements) I get a link cursor but clicking an image doesn’t open a lightbox. I have to preview in a browser to get a lightbox to appear.

I’ve been doing some more testing and now when I preview in Safari it’s now opening the image you click, but any use of the navigation arrows takes you back to image 1 and the navigation breaks.

OK, additional information and issue.

Links in Elements aren’t working at all for me. Hovering the menu bar shows link cursor but the links don’t work - I suspect whatever is causing this is causing the issue with the gallery not previewing in Elements.

I’ve confirmed there are no Elements updates, have restarted Elements and my machine. I’ve also tried other projects (which have worked in the past) and the links don’t work in Elements but DO work in Safari (well, not properly in the gallery).

When time permits I’ll reinstall Elements to see if it resolves it (if I can find a current download link).

Re-installed Elements, no difference - links not working at all in Elements but OK in Safari (except Gallery).

Works fine for me on an M4 Pro MacMini running Seqouia 15.2 and Safari 18.2.

The only issue I found was the close button for the lightbox was underneath the navbar, but you could still click there it close the lightbox.

No problems with sequencing of the pictures.

Select and display photo from the gallery is ok, and then navigation always goes back to the first photo.
Navigation is not working.

@dan z-index. I assume the z index range has been extended, 51 causes the same issue

this project doesnt work for me either and the close button is hidden behind the menu and is blurred but is still clickable!!!
published my site opened it in Edge worked perfectly the first time…came out went back in and it didn’t work
ps
it works ok if I drag the scene size in a bit.
dont like my iPad or iPhone either…slide with finger ok on iPhone

Try setting z-index to 50 on the menu then try

this is dans project why would I have to start changing settings??

Testing???

ive been testing since aug/sept…when the gallery didn’t work…I test my own site…gallery work perfectly when the screen is at a certain width but not the widest…also if a gallery is put in a container it doesnt work anymore whatever width its at.
also it work fine in Edge at all widths…sometimes!!!
