Introduce yourself!

Hi,

My name is Russ Conte, and I live in the Chicago, Illinois area. I’m the President of the Chicago Apple User Group, and have enjoyed that role for many years. The club’s website is made using RapidWeaver and several plug-ins.

My RapidWeaver setup includes quite a bit of extensions, such as FormLoom, templates by Nick Cates, lots of plug-ins from YourHead, and more. It all works together for me extremely well.

Outside of web design using RapidWeaver, I have lots of other interests. I’m a lifelong musician and can play quite a few instruments. My life has been extremely fortunate in that i’ve been able to assist people with disabilities in finding employment, I’ve gained a lot from people who speak Spanish (which I learned as an adult), I’m now helping my friends at work as part of a team that is designing a set of surveys to use data science to reduce and ideally totally eliminate workplace accidents.

I’ve been involved with RapidWeaver since the early days, happy to joint the forums, and looking forward to continuing to learn from what everyone shares here!

Be safe!

:wave:Hi Russ, welcome to the forum.

Hello to all

For several years now I developed and maintain two Wordpress sites. They got hacked however last year and I had to quickly develop a new one with preferably new means.

So I bought a Mac. And I am glad I did so because I do now like Rapidwaever more then Wordpress. Who knows, the second site could become the first site one day…

It is good to have a forum here too. My first two questions have allready been asked and got answers!

Cheers

Hi

I’m a freelance web developer and I’m using Rapid Weaver because my client has used it for all his websites. I normally create custom WordPress themes and the odd hardcoded site.

Rapid Weaver is a nice platform for content marketing which is what his websites really do because you can prevent the non-tech user from breaking anything, but for a coder working on any front-end editor is frustrating. So I’m here to try and find out how or if it’s possible to do certain things, particularly editing a theme at a code level.

And that’s me. Hi everyone.

Hi Dan and all of you!
My intro;)
I have just built my site with RW8, I am really not a techy person, actually I am a psychotherapist who just needed to get my business up and running… I started creating my website in RW7 using a template and modifying it to my own design, after the launch of RW8 I decided to create a new and hopefully neater site, and preferably with a better SEO ranking on google.
At some extent I found using RW straight forward at some point, but in many cases it was really challenging for a non techy person to understand all the terms and unfamiliar words. I did miss more options to just get explanations by pointing at a word (better in RW8), and get a brief explanation e.g. what is a meta tag, where does it appear in google, what is the difference between styled text, html and html etc.etc,… for me I had to google nearly every word, watch hours of you tube videos…
Well, my solution has been to learn som basic html coding, that gave me the option to customise my site a bit further. It was only later I realised I could have used som Stacks apps, to make it easier:)…

Anyways, It has been really fun & challenging building my one and only site!
One thing I am really pleased with; is the speed of the site, always above 90-95, and thats good!

  1. One thing I really miss, is; a web based browser app for building the site w RW.
  2. Does anyone know an easy way to add the poss for 2 languages on the site?

I would be happy to get some feedback regarding my site (layout, as it is in Norwegian), however dont be to harsh as I am a newbe:)

Hi guys!

I’m a 50 years old Gardner and Interior Landscaper from Finland. I used to be a full-time Graphic Designer (20 years ago), but nowadays it’s more of a part-time occupation and hobby. I’m taking care of the Graphic Design for 4 companies + my own.

I used to design web pages with Adobe Muse, but since they pulled the plug, I’ve been looking for different options for the future. Did one site in Wordpress, but didn’t like the work process. Have now been studying RW for about one month and although there is so much to learn I’m both excited and hopeful. Great tools and a great forum, this makes my life a lot easier.

Cheers, Stanley

Hi,

I have been a computer and web enthusiast since I remember. I still remember those 286, 386 procs times and Pascal beginnings. :floppy_disk: However, I choose the other road and now I am a profesional musician, a violinist at Slovene Philharmonics Orchestra.

I find these corona-quarantine long days perfect to start with my old wish-making websites (besides playing my instrument, of course).

Everyday I learn something new and Joe and all the other guys are just super at making all that work with stacks, youtube videos and all the help they share. Thank you!!

Can’t wait to discover all of this RW world.

Best wishes to everybody,

Matic,

Hiya, I have been using RapidWeaver for years. Living proof that you don’t have to be a computer whizz to be able to use the technology. I was an airline pilot, have been a writer for years ( 5 books now). I have just re-done my original jamesnixon.com website and am trying to reorganise my blog posts that have been running since 2001. More about that in a new thread question elsewhere.

I keep telling people to use WordPress to build their own sites (so I don’t have to help them!) but ALWAYS keep coming back to RapidWeaver for all my own sites. Love it!.

My name is Bill George. I am a 32 DreamWeaver user (Creative Suite 4 & 5) and upon retirement in 2007 (IT support in Northern California) I got into Macintosh that had iWeb, iDVD, iLife, iMovie, iWorks, Mobile Me etc. I thought I died and had gone to heaven. I bought Rapidweaver (RW) when a “deal” from a mass Mac software outlet discounted it, bought Foundation & downloaded numerous (paid/donated for some) stacks. I’ve struggled with it, but when Catalina came along, and made my Dreamweaver software obsolete (not going to pay $20/month for rent-ware, not to mention the complexity), I dug in a little more. I think RW is a fabulous product. Also the 3rd party developer community that it produced, is great. One thing that bothers me is the fragmented documentation. I suppose it just reflects RW’s grass-roots nature. Kind of like the Radio Shack TRS-80 I started with in 1978. RapidWeaver will last much longer. So, I’m trying to learn everything I can & found this forum. I’m from Castro Valley, California & would like to learn/contribute wherever I can. I’m in the middle of converting all my web sites to Rapidweaver (ex http://caebaygs.bdgeorge.com/old/ >> https://caebaygs.wdgeo.com. I have a second web provider (webhostinghub that hosts wdgeo.com) that includes SSL with subdomains. The first one charges $150/year for wildcard SSL service. My home page is http://www.billgeorge.com, but will be transferred to SSL soon. Thank you for reading this. I just learned how to do Error 404 redirects this morning from https://weaver.tips/ (listed in this forum). I’ve struggled with .htaccess for years, but easily applied the tip with RW 8’s .htaccess edit feature. Bill (williamcgeorge@gmail.com)

Hello! My name is Rick, and I’m trying to learn RapidWeaver, and more specifically, stacks and foundation. I think once I get my head wrapped around it, I’ll be fine, but at this point…I’m lost! But I can see, the beauty and variety of sites one can make is limitless!

I’m happy to be here, and look forward to being in this forum.

Thanks,
Rick

Hello

I was an early adopter of Rapidweaver but remain a fairly unsophisticated user. ie No CSS etc. I want to include a forum on my site (www.memoir.services) but that, I think will be beyond me but I would hope to manage it once it’s set up. Can anyone offer suggestions?

Hello! 64y.o. male from NC interested in genealogy. Longtime iWeb user for my genealogy website till Apple discontinued support for it :frowning: After their decision to stop supporting iWeb I just let my website sit idle for a number of years.

Now that I’m retired and have some more time on my hands, I’ve decided to bite the bullet and attempt to update my website… But the big question… What software is available???

After a lot of research, it appeared there was only one choice for me and my Mac. Rapidweaver. I purchased version 6.0 a few years ago, but became overwhelmed with the learning curve and didn’t really have the time to invest. I began again about a month ago and decided I probably needed to add some add-ons like “Stacks.” While I’m slowly working my way through all this, I really still miss my iWeb software. It was so simple and seemed flawless in my opinion.

Looking forward to meeting everybody!

HI Everyone. My name Bruno. RW user since january 2010. A lot of changes since that period.
Many Themes, stacks and plugin purchased until Foundry was launched by Adam Shiver.
So for my use RW + Stacks + Foundry you can do whatever you want.
You can adopt if you need a good e-commerce that can be embedded into RW so you can continue to style your site as you wish and sell on line your products or services and that’s all.

Assuming you just expect a reply: I’m Graham Samuel, retired software developer and IT professional, very long term Mac user (since the 80s!) now footling around with various small projects including currently an iPhone app that needs a very simple supporting web site. I am absolutely new to RapidWeaver and I have not yet found the learning resources I need (like a manual!) so I’m hoping this forum will help me, if people can put up with really naive questions.

Hi to all. My name is Alessandro. I’m not a programmer … just a beginner. I’m trying to buildthe website for my non-profit association.

Hi All,
I’m Heinrich Dahms. I’m a filmmaker based in the Netherlands. I’m trying to build a new website and I’m new to RapidWeaver and site building as such, but I’m hoping I’m not to run into many obstacles with this app.

I started using rapidweaver in about 2008 when I suddenly needed a website for my photography. Then I got sick and have had a chronic illness and haven’t been able to use rapidweaver since 2012. I’m still on RW4! I can only imagine the pain I will feel when I try to update.

I’ve been really happy with the program. I love how it’s easy to use but powerful and can do anything the more you know the more you can fobbut you don’t need to know a lot. And when you have questions people help you with custom CSS to tweak your site.

Thank you Rapidweaver team!
