Introducing Password Protect for Elements

The Password Protect Pack is now available on the Elements Store :tada:

You can now lock down pages and sections in Elements without touching any code. It even has support for biometric login (think Touch ID, Face ID, etc,).

The new Password Protect Pack gives you a selection of components that handle everything for you. Watch the video below to learn more about this amazing new addon for Elements:

Page Password
Stops the page from loading until the visitor enters the correct password. It intercepts the render pipeline, shows a simple password form, and keeps the page hidden until authentication succeeds.

Section Password
Lets you hide specific parts of a layout. The protected dropzone stays completely hidden until the user enters the password. Nothing leaks through to the browser.

If you’ve been waiting for a straightforward way to secure private content, this pack does the job with no hassle.

Available today on the Elements Store.

Awesome! Just purchased. Can an option for PIN UX/UI be added if a PIN is being used instead of a proper password?

Instant purchase

Thanks for the feedback (and your support), that’s certainly something we’ll consider!

I see these 3 components under Security:

Oh dear, that’s not right!

Couple of things to check first: Make sure you’ve not typed anything in the search field, then restart Elements. See if the ā€œPassword Sectionā€ component appears.

We’re just checking things on our side now, but let me know how you get on.

We’ve looked into this and it’s actually a problem on our end.

We’re busy working on a fix and will have an updated version available ASAP.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Restarted Elements and nothing typed in search. It is showing only these 3 components.

Congratulations on Password Protect. Well done!

However, I find the price you are charging for this product too high when I compare it to what I can do in Sitelok for $59.95. Sitelok offers much more functionality, such as a member area where users can set their own passwords. When the price for Password Protect is $70, it should include support for multiple member accounts.

We’ve updated the product and it now contains all the components, sorry about that. Check the update section in the store to get the new version

Awesome! Got it. See below for Log Out question.

Nice looking product, but the price puts it way out of my range.

Hope this is not a harbinger of the future of components in the storefront, where they are going to be priced this high.

Yes, I know there is work involved, and you have to make a living, but it seems like we are fast heading down the Stacks road. I used to think some of them were expensive, but this is even higher.

If I bought all these components, I’d be bankrupt. Especially after spending thousands of dollars on stacks.

I found the issue…forgot to add the session ID to the Log Out button. :joy:

Never having run a successful business - so putting that out there…

It’s ā€˜Almost’ impossible to raise prices on software

My guess…

So if you start from a high point you can always have sales… and gradually decrease the price…

I think  don’t know - that’s how it’s done…

  • At least in the audio plugin market…

I bought a pdf ā€œhow to price productsā€ there is a psychology behind pricing items also… fascinating stuff…

To be honest, I too thought it was slightly expensive for what it does but purchased it anyway to support RealMac. However, I don’t think I would have purchased it at the full price, especially when comparing the price as a percentage of the cost of the Elements App.

I see the Component as being more like an enhanced PageSafe.

I have previously purchased Sitelok which does a lot more than this Component (except for the bio login) including membership and 2FA login etc. There are already Sitelok integration Components for Elements available, which I am using. Vibaralogix is still waiting on 3rd Parties being able to make their Components available in the Elements Store.

I agree that one of the major benefits of using Elements was not having to purchase the equivalent of a myriad of stacks from different Stacks developers to get a website functional. I think Elements has largely achieved this.

These components are optional and we don’t have to buy them. As @dan points out in the video, there are other ways of securing a webpage. This Component just makes the job easier, albeit at a price.

I think the current strategy is actively alienating potential long term subscribers as we speak.
Concentrate on the goal of 5000 x Ā£150 active subscribers by getting back to the core app dev and external marketing. That’s plenty food for the table.

I personally have become more and more resistant of committing to the platform, as a dev, and and end user, as the recent weeks have unfolded, with add-on component pricing. The all in on the Store approach, like that revenue is the goal. The straight in at 30% cut for developers, for a user base, they stated hasn’t even made 2000 yet, as opposed to the 30% Apple takes for access to millions of users.

It all feels a bit like a wishing well to me at the moment.

All I can do at this point is take a big sigh in exasperation - It’s just one more example of the tone-deaf actions from Realmac that will just destroy 3rd-party opportunities and probably put Realmac out of business in the near future. I’m not going to scream and yell, as that does no good, but I think everyone is well aware of what’s happening in this market.

was initially excited about the new Password element, but my enthusiasm faded when I saw the price. One of my main issues with the Classic version was the high cost of their stacks. Although Elements offers new and exciting features, the price points are still a concern for me. I’m considering alternatives like Siteloc or similar options.
