One thing I still find confusing in Elements is that when I start a blank page it’s surprisingly empty. There’s no properties (page title, background image/colour, padding, etc) that can be set, and there’s no ‘root’ container element - implied or explicit.
I don’t think we need a single visible root node/container in the node list that everything hangs under, but there’s no reason that the page name (ie. ‘Untitled Page’) couldn’t serve as that root node. Currently it’s not possible to select it, but if you could, exposing some basic page/container properties would make a lot of sense.
Also, why are there ‘drag handles’ on both sides of the viewport? Wouldn’t it be sufficient to have one (on the right) that could be used to resize the viewport (aligned to the left). I struggle to see why the viewport needs to be centered with gaps on both sides - it just feels awkward. It’s also too easy to inadvertently collapse the inspector when dragging on the right side if the viewport is extended fully. Maybe the inspector doesn’t need to collapse on drag, and the focus can be on resizing the viewport?
