Publish site doesn't work

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I’m still having trouble selecting “Publish Site.” The first time I do, I get a blank screen and nothing happens. I then “Cancel” and try again. This time I get this screen:

It’s trying to save or access each of my pages. But nothing happens. I’;ve left the screen alone for an hour and still nothing happens. When I cancel, Elements freezes and I have to Force Quit. I’ve tried restarting Elements, Also restarting my Mac (15.6.1 (24G90)). Nothing works. It’s s large file (688 MB). I don’t know what I’ve done wrong in building my site. I have had this trouble many times before, but usually if I cancel the first blank screen and try again, it works.

I have the same problem since the last update. But it works sometimes after the forced quit. I use FTPS speed 6 and haven’t had this problem before. Changed to speed 5, same.

Sorry to hear you’re having issues, I’m sure we’ll be able to get you back up and running.

If you’re having issues publishing via FTP, we recommend publishing via SFTP as this is often more reliable (and secure).

Contact your hosting company to check your SFTP details as they can often be slightly different to your FTP details.

If you are still having issues, the upload logs will be very helpful in locating the issue, follow the guide here.

Please do let me know how you get on with the above suggestions.

I have sent several crash logs to you (in the app). Have a look …

I’ve contacted my provider about changing to FTPS. What I now discovered when I open Publishing settings, if I select TEST, the program hangs up and I have to force quick. However, when I view the files with an FTP program, I can get into the server.

My mistake, I had a accidentally added wrong information

How do I access them?

To Elements’ Ben, not you. They are my Elements chrashes

  • Most hosting companies don’t support FTP because it is possible to snoop the connection and get your username and password.
  • SFTP is for Linux or similar flavors on port 22
  • FTPS could be for a Microsoft machine on port 990

My host is IONOS and they have both, but my server is on a Linux system. My testing with Ventura and Sequoia on an M2 Mini with 8GB are that I can update a few files but not too many. Some times it is only 8 pages, but it works.

If I roll back to an older version of Elements there is no problem. My conclusion is the new version opens more streams to the server than before, or something is triggering the host to block connections because it just hangs.

@dan I used the message ability on the forum to send information on my project

PS. For the people reading this message I would like to say that Elements is awesome and the men who created it are great. If I ever have a bad day please don’t read my posts as I am upset at you. I come from the flame wars era of Usenet at the dawn of the Internet.

Do you know how I can roll back to an older version?

I use Time Machine so I recovered a version from a few weeks ago.

I put the app in the trash and did the recovery. Elements saves all the stuff other than the app in another location so you’re good. You may also try and see if uploading files piecemeal will work.

After the latest update to Elements, it can’t publish, and after that you can’t save the project. You have to force quit Elements to move on, and you can’t continue without restarting the computer.

This is getting annoying after the last update. Publishing works once, then spinn (see image), then cancel, then spinning red/orange/green ball, then force quit, then restart elements.

What I have to do now after adding/changing anything is quit elements and open again before publishing. @ben

Mac mini M1 2020 Sequoia 15.6.1 - FTPS speed 6 or 5. When using speed 1 it might work, will test more.

I also get problems publishing to my Mac mini (if I try to switch after FTPS), so I assume it’s related to elements. @dan - I never had any problems publishing before.

I have the same problem after updating to the latest version…..! Sometimes I’m able to export. But the “Publish” functionality always hangs. Regardless if you use “Local Folder” or SFTP to my hoster. This is now very critical….!!!

Hey all. I use IONONS. what host do you use so maybe we can eliminate some change at the host level.

So I went back to version 1.0.7. The first time I tried to view the page in the browser, it worked. And I can view other pages.

Then I tried the browser again and got this message:

Then the program quit. I rebooted and then tried Publishing. Got a blank screen. Cancelled. Then tried again. Same results as before. Forever loading pages.

I tried once more. This time republishing all the files. This time Elements froze and I had to Force Exit. This is way beyond a drag. I need to update a couple of pages.

I don’t know if this would help, but here is the Apple report on one of my crashes.

Apple error notice.txt (2.9 MB)

I think I’m on the brink of break down! I’ve used Time Machine to restore an earlier version of Element. [1.0.7]. I only had two pages that had something new on them, but it uploaded 3000 plus files. The upshot is now takes a very long time for the site to load as well as a very long time for any of the pages or links to load. I tried loading the site on my phone. The same result. What is going on here. Is my site forever ruined?
