SFTP publishing problem with public SSL key?

Software versions:

MacOS 11.2.2 (Big Sur)
RapidWeaver 8.7

Trying to get publishing via SFTP to a Linux machine I have on my home network going and so far nada. I am able to make the command line sftp application connect and transfer files, so I feel like this should not be a problem. I have configured SSL such that the public key from my account on the Macbook is available on the account on the Linux box I’m trying to publish to, such that no password should be necessary. Is there some issue with using IP addresses locally? Is it a bad idea to use SSL? (I gave RW the link to the private key on my MacBook.) I always get a “Couldn’t sign in to your SFTP server/Failed initialization.” dialogue. Help?
