Social Media Stacks

Any suggestions for Social Media Stacks? Pro/Cons?

Social media stacks come and go. I have implemented several over the years but the social media guys make this harder and harder to maintain them as the API seems to be a moving target while some stopped working all together due to platform API removal. I have since given up on this stuff. Just add links to the page usually in the footer.

you could try oEmbed from @joeworkman but like I said your mileage may vary depending on who your trying to connect to.

I second that - it’s very costly for stack developers to keep social media stacks up to date.

This goes for stacks that show content from social platforms on your website and for stacks that allow visitors to “like” or “pin” your content on social media - the platforms constantly change their APIs in this area (or make it downright impossible). Most demand that you load their (external) Javascript instead or just simply doing an API call, which poses a risk to you (you have no idea what that Javascript does with your visitor’s data and the working can change without you knowing).

Sharing stacks seem to fair a little better. I’ve been using ShareStack ($15, Stacks4Stacks.com) to provide sharing buttons for most platforms. This has so far continued to work.

Cheers,
