Summary of some 0.9.7 impressions

Positives

  1. Elements looks VERY promising. VERY. I can hardly wait to get the maintenance strain and total costs of a wordpress site off my back.
  2. Using a script to convert Wordpress posts and pages to .md files really saved my bacon. Maybe sombody should tell a visual story about how to transition from WP to Elements?
  3. A lot of things work. Like publishing to my personal web folder at my employer´s web site using sftp. The publishing of updates pages seems to be working fine
  4. Elements is easy to get into, coming from Wordpress, but I still lack some features to really get going. Like the new CMS functionality
  5. I love the fact that I can (soon) create markdown files i Notes, and go quickly to CMS production in Elements
  6. I love the flexible interface that can take full advantage of my widescreen monitor. Spreading out all my panes will be so fun and productive and a giant leap from what I am used to from Wordpress
  7. The fact that I can save different workspaces to adapt to different contexts is such a timesaver.

Small peculiarities

  1. Somehow, I would have liked to see the whole image displayed in the resource inspector
  2. Dropping in my entire 5,5GB Wordpress media folder (png, jpg, pdf) into resources caused Elements to slow down and crash several times. Cutting down the amount of images from 8200 to 1000 seems to have solved the problem. However – I worry about illustrations weighing this program down. Hopefully it can be fixed?
  3. I find myself wanting better visibility (larger icons) in resources and perhaps some kind of staging area when it comes to photos, illustrations and more. A dream would be to tie Squash closely into this and to have an easy way of organizing original illustrations together with used and unused compressed illustrations with watermarks.
  4. I cannot wait for a simpler interface for CMS, and be able to produce topical (categories and keywords) grids of articles on my site
  5. Templates…. I am so looking forward to templates. I have no ambition of creating the look and feel of my site manually. I would like a starting point that is better then «empty» and even the project «North Eleven».

Keep up the good work. You are clearly heading in a direction I can and will be able to use.

Sincerely,

I’m also really waiting for the CMS…

@dan, @ben, @elementsbot, when could we see the CMS in the build? Would love to get started…

I had a private conversation with him, and he said calling out @elementsbot didn’t mean for him to summon automatically.

Good thing, he’s built with an attitude :sweat_smile:

Very strange, he seems to not respond in this thread. but just posted a test here
and he’s a live and well
