I’ve tried for months searching guides, forums, and manuals… and all I want to (profanity) do is add a simple title underneath a gallery image/images. Unbelievable how difficult it’s been to get a proper answer for a simple feature such as a “title” under an image… the web and this website have a ridiculous amount of outdated and incorrect info, hence this absurd amount of time spent to implement such a basic feature. I don’t need all of the bells and whistles… I just want to add a visible title underneath images.
I’m using Elements 2.4.4, and currently using a Gallery container, but have tried Grid and others, and the complications are too much for my patience. Again, I just need an option for a title.
Yes, I’ve looked into Gallery Pro, and do I really want to spend £100 so I can put a title under an image?
I can get a title under each thumbnail in the Gallery layout using the Caption function but it is not visible when you click on that photo to show it individually. How to is in this thread -

Also in that thread is a possible solution using modals which I might now try as I am more familiar with things.
I started off trying to add a caption as physical text in the photo to get around this but soon realised that was not going to work. It is the one thing that is still missing to me compared to RW but from responses on here it sounds like while it is basic functionality it is very hard to implement. Gallery Pro seems like overkill to me as well for this particular need.
Cheaper option perhaps? - https://forums.realmacsoftware.com/t/barz-stacks-is-now-on-the-elements-marketplace-starting-with-image-lightbox-gallery/56265
Thank you for the reply. Yet, this is the exact absurdity I’ve been trying to point out… Having to go through this amount of troubleshooting to put a title under a picture?
For what it’s worth - I totally agree BGD
Just a thought - I am having my first play with CMS2 for my character website - is this something you’re looking for in an image with “words” underneath? let me know and I’ll help you. testing.mooreuk.co.uk
Hey Paul. A single image with a title underneath is easy. Multiple thumbnails in a gallery with titles underneath are easy as well. Problem is when you come to a gallery and click on the thumbnail for the larger picture and there is no simple way to show a title for that particular picture.
I was hoping Lightbox Gallery would be the answer so purchased that today but alas no, as far as I can see you have to click a button to trigger the gallery/slideshow with titles whereas I want visible thumbnails that trigger the slideshow as per the basic gallery in Elements.
Ok no problem - do you have a link to something which shows me what you’re trying to do? TIA
Ok, try this one.
Standard Elements gallery on the big screen. Ignore smaller screen sizes as it changes to an image slider for mobile.
Gallery settings allow for the Caption or the Author to be shown under the thumbnails. I have them turned off on here. When I click on a thumbnail and the larger image opens I would like some text to appear below the image. This is not possible in the standard Gallery and to be honest I cannot see how you would get it to work in a lightbox without a level of coding that is way beyond me.
Image Lightbox Gallery has the capability to have a title to the image when you go through the slideshow as shown on this demo page but it does not have the thumbnails at the start, just a button. Going to see if I can use a grid of images as a trigger instead of a button which may be a work around.
EDIT - Yes, you can drop a grid into the Image Lightbox Gallery and use that as a trigger for a slideshow that allows image titles. Thumbnails will take a bit of work to look good but think this could be the way forward.
We’ll be adding the ability to add the Caption and Author to the built-in Gallery Lightbox (large image) in the near future ![]()
Good to know, thank you.
When I’m in the Gallery, it does not allow me change/edit a thumbnail when I click on it.
Not sure if I get you but click on the actual resource you want to edit -
and then click on the ‘i’ button on the other side of the screen to open the inspector. Add your title and caption there.
Under thumbnails in the Gallery section you will then see a toggle to turn on or off both Caption and Author.
Hope that helps.
as soon as you open the Lightbox the title does not show…only in the pro gallery version!!!
thats why ben posted this
