I don’t have anything yet to show. Baby steps. I wish to create a basic typography which I can duplicate for words set between pictures. (I did watch the old typography video). This is my first entry into Elements about which I am queasy with apprehension. Based on the idea that what I create in phone view will be transformed into the larger views, I assumed that setting the margin and padding to auto would be best. However, there is 0 effect in viewing any margins or padding.
Do I need to create a specific numerical value for each view? Surely I would rather not have to do that. I’m going for simple, fast at the moment.
I am assuming that once I get the first typography “box” (what is the correct term?) to order, and duplicate it, I will be able to place photos between the “paragraphs”. Will I need to have a container for each photo?
Realizing that I remember little of my experience which started with Dreamweaver, RapidWeaver, code etc, I feel very out of sorts with what seems to pass here as a “user manual”. Perhaps someone has a young child who would be able to write a step by manual about how to actually do it?
Sorry to be so flippant, and thank you for helping me begin again.
I am working without a theme, so you applied theme spacing. Can I create a simple theme for my site which will hold the spacing? Or is there some other easy way…?
Oh, you put the typography within a container. That’s a big clue. Thank you.
Yes, there are free themes, but is it worth having to adjust all the colors and put things where I want them? Or are there hidden benefits, like your automated, standardized settings?
If I put a numerical padding/margin in, would it increase automatically for the larger formats?
Themes in Elements are NOT the same as they were in RapidWeaver Classic. In elements, themes are a collection of settings defining colors, spacing, screen sizes, fonts, font sizing and a few others. While you can override current theme settings, you cannot yet create your own.
Access theme settings with the icon at top of editor window.
So it sounds like a time saver to choose a theme. Thank you for the basic info. It seems very difficult to be a beginner with this program. But you are all helping a great deal!
Open a blank project and play with the templates which will show you how the components are added together to form the various parts of a project. That, and play with any of the free projects to get a feel for how the components work and how everything is tied together and probably the easiest way to learn. Plus watch the videos by the Developers.
AAaakkk - I am trying, but I don’t seem to find the things I’m looking for. Anyone have the ability to join on my screen and show me step by step the basics. What would it cost?
Seems like it would be simple. Paragraphs of typography, with margins and padding, duplicated in between photos. By the time I learn how to find the objects: containers, typography and photos, I might be able to gain my bearings to use the new components I just bought to put together a simple website for a spiritual retreat.
I look at all the options and I go numb. Perhaps if I try in the morning, with a fresh brain it might help…
Honestly, the best thing you can do is go to the Marketplace on the left and have a look at some of the free projects. Open one that has what you are after and then look at how it is structured. I don’t know what all these bits are called but if you do what I have shown below to drag open the structure of the project a light might click on for you and you can move forward.
Other tip is to do the layout for mobile phone size first, then gradually increase the screen size. Doing this you will see that you probably do want different margins and padding on different screen sizes.
It’s just new, stick at it a bit longer and you will find it isn’t as hard as you think.
Greetings again, Morning mental clarity here now. Started going through using typography with a theme. Tried to change the theme font and the list would not move, would not scroll. Here’s what it looks like. Please let me know what I’m missing. Many thanks
Thanks. My screenshot says Build. Yours says system. My options are all greyed out - nothing can be selected nor scrolled. Therefore, something must be wrong on my end. Would you clarify please?
Try a different theme. I use System for everything, and override with any changes I want. Eventually, Realmac plans to unlock theme creation / editing, but they aren’t there yet.
