Dev Diary Ep70 - Elements 0.6.7 Update

Hello again,

Today’s update is a biggie, so I thought it best I record a quick video to highlight a few of the many, many changes. And yes, this latest build does include the long-awaited Form Components :tada:

Watch the video below and open this project once you’ve got the new build.

Get Elements for macOS

Elements is currently in Early Access. You can visit the elementsapp.io website to purchase a license today.

Thanks for Your Feedback

As always, keep the feedback coming. Your input has made all the difference so far.

Thank you!

See you soon,
Dan & Team Realmac.

Thank you, and it sure is nice to get this build out into the open for testing

Having been in the software biz for decades, I can appreciate and understand more than most people the order of magnitude of the project you have undertaken.

Question. Have you frozen the data format of the project file? What are the chances the format will change?

Now that Elements is in the open and being used, we’ll make sure project files are compatible going forward!

@dan Stoked this release is out, but I’m seeing problems with all of my projects. The primary one is crashing when I try to edit my custom colors in the theme studio.

The other more worrisome one is that my custom typography setup has been changed from underneath me. My font settings have been switched to some other font. Not sure if this was intentional or a bug.

I’m sure this might be simple to fix as I can go and make sure the font is reset to my font. Unfortunately, I cannot make this fix as the Theme Studio crashes whenever I try to open it.

UPDATE: I’m seeing a LOT of crashes (more than I have ever experienced in the past). Especially, while trying to test out the new components. The crashes always occur when I try to change some of the settings. Some of my projects will not even open, they crash instantly.

I just found the Easter Egg. Nicely done.

So Sorry about this, I thought there would be a few issues in this build, but not this bad. Don’t worry though, we’re going to get right on it, and get it fixed ASAP. In the meantime, can you send us a project, that crashes?

Can you send us this project also? or is it the same project?

…and can we get a project that crashes on launch too.

Sorry again about all this, we’ll get the bugs fixed up and release a shiney new build tomorrow (Friday).

I’ll put them together and mail you the links.

I also noticed after getting lucky with trying to change one of the colors that my overridden color palettes were all gone. Is there a way that I can go back to the previous version so that I can record the colors I had setup so I can rebuild the palettes once I can get into the theme studio?

I’m going to have to send you the projects some other way as I cannot get into Elements with the project that crashes on launch in order to upload it to the Elements Cloud? I sent you this one via email.

I was able to get the larger project uploaded so I emailed you the link to it as well. This one also has my missing overridden palettes.

My project is crashing using the node browser.

Hi @hsakols,

Can you send me the project via Elements Cloud? you can send the link via email if that’s better, it’s dan at Realmac Software dot com.

We’ll get this fixed up ASAP!

Good to hear that

The sample project is fantastic to play around with the new components :upside_down_face:

Hi Dan,

Here is the link. elementsapp://downloadDocument/trd9yExr6uQz
I had to remove some of the images. Is 1600 px on the long end overdoing it? The fonts were changed, but that should be easy enough to fix.

Thanks,
Hugh

Has any attention been applied to a blogging platform within Elements?

That is perfect, thank you!

Were they custom fonts chosen for the project, or were you just using the themes?

This is just in the conceptual stage right now. We have some ideas on what we could do, but it’s low priority — We need to finish and ship the core app as a 1.0 before we can tackle this.

I believe other third-party options (like this one) will be available long before we have something to officially offer.

Hi Dan,

in this project elementsapp://downloadDocument/XciyBB3Cu6Yy it crashes at different places. Open Theme Studio and click on Colors. I have defined my own colors.
Another error is that the menu disappears behind the text when viewed in the browser. I have already made several attempts with Z-Index, but unfortunately without success. And how can I change the links to the menu items afterwards?
The border radius full should also be wrong in Theme Studio.

We’ve now fixed this and will ship a new build later today!

Not sure I follow what th eissue is here. I’ll need more details or better yet a copy of your project.

Sorry, not sure what you mean here. Can you post a screenshot, or a link to your project so we can take a look.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the quick reply. Have a look at the menu. You can hardly see any of the entries as the text is overlaid by the font. See picture. Should the border radius full in the theme studio really be 576px?
