I’ve been updating a few sites over the past couple weeks, and built-in FTP publishing worked just fine until today. This is with multiple different sites/FTP servers. When I try the “test” from Publishing Setup, it stays on “Testing…” for quite a while, then responds with “Couldn’t sign in to your FTP server — Failure when receiving data from the peer.” Is there anyway to see a log of the testing procedure?
Any ideas what might be going on?
I haven’t changed any FTP settings, passwords, etc… I’m on Sonoma 14.6.1. I can reach the sites fine by https.
Lastly, is there a decent (free?) FTP client for MacOS? I used to use Transmit but haven’t re-upped the subscription.
SOLVED: My problem was the Cloudflare proxy I’d recently setup. The solution is changing RW’s publishing setup to use the IP address for FTP connection rather than the hostname (ftp.mywebsite.com). Cloudflare proxies https traffic but not ftp traffic.
Thanks also of rthe tip on FileZilla, I’ll check that out.
I do wish there was a way to see the connection log of RW’s built in FTP.
