So if you have a page with 30 images and you remove an image in the center do the remaining images automatically realign?
And if all the horizontal and vertical images on a page have the same longest dimension, do the vertical thumbs always have to appear larger? (masonry)
“If” I’m ever able to release addons, I’d price my pro gallery at circa £20, with a view to sell 1000 copies in time. 20 grand is good enough for me for a weeks work.
Can you animate a gallery collection? I noticed that there are animations for single images as you roll over them as I was wondering if that was the case for image groups?
@ben I do understand - but is there an option not to show the lightbox on mobile? The reason is that very often the image - as it is - is already as large as the lightbox will be able to display it. So there is no benefit in enlarging it but it rather distracts the user experience.
Further to my previous post about the new gallery pro and not displaying the lightbox here is a link, using all default settings that simply does not show the lightbox?
You’ve captured exactly how I feel. I expressed similar but second guessed myself and deleted my post, feeling it was unfair to criticise after how much work has clearly gone into Elements and the passion behind Realmac, which I respect. I’m so grateful for Rapidweaver which I’ve used for 10+ years. I haven’t yet bought Elements but this has put me off - there’s literally a video comparing Elements to Stacks on YouTube, saying it’s an all in one solution, and you don’t need to keep shedding out money apart from the annual fee for updates. Now, in addition to an annual fee, if we want this component, we have to pay a substantial amount (almost as much as the annual fee). If this was available for £20 or £30, I’d perhaps feel more open to it if it’s a premium solution but the fee seems extortionate vs. what we’ve come to expect in Stacks. I guess I’m just here scratching my head after feeling excited for moving to Elements. I understand I just don’t need to buy this component if I don’t want it, but it feels risky investing in a system where these are the sorts of price points that are present.
@Fuellemann, I’d actually like this as an option too It would make for a super-quick way to put a masonry image layout on the page. I’ll have a chat with @ben and see if I can twist his arm in agreement
Edit: Just chatting to @ben and he suggested that a pure Masonry image layout is a separate component… perhaps something simple we can build into Elements
@ham-uk It’s worth noting that Elements already includes a powerful built-in Gallery component that’s suitable for the vast majority of sites and projects. The Pro Gallery add-on is designed more for professional photographers and designers who need advanced presentation options, so it’s intentionally a specialist tool rather than something everyone needs to purchase.
Here’s a video of the free built-in Gallery, and a link to the Docs. This is incldued with Elements and is excellent.
With Elements Plus at $149 (yours to keep forever), you get everything required to build modern websites out of the box. In many cases, achieving a similar setup in the Stacks ecosystem would involve purchasing many, many add-ons that would easily cost in access of $500.
If you’re unsure, the best approach is to try Elements for free and see how it fits your workflow. You may find the included tools already cover everything you need, and then you can decide later whether any specialised add-ons make sense for your projects.
What would be the harm to have the option in the pro version (for the premium price)? If we have a normal component and then decide to have a light box or gallery we just have additional work. By having the option inside the ProGallery we have a better choice and support more use cases
