Media Object vs Image & Text, and Core Elements

In looking at both the Media Object and Image & Text elements I’m struck by how similar they are, especially as the ‘media object’ isn’t what I was expecting at all (I was thinking it has something to do with audio or video media).

How do you imagine folks using these elements, and are these really ‘core’ elements, or should they possibly be in another ‘bucket’ of common elements?

Core elements to me would be Container(s, incl. flex and grid), Image (incl. SVG), Text (currently called paragraph), and Media (audio/video). The rest (Button, Card, Header, Modal, etc) seem like great template elements that provide the user with common patterns, using core elements packaged in an easy to use, and user configurable component.

Don’t worry, we’re having the same conversations… you’re seeing these beta’s weekly as we’re working this stuff out in public. We do have some change planned regarding naming and categorizations.

One train of thought is that we just call all of these “Components”, and just categories them, much like the way they have done on the Tailwind Components page. This feels like the most sensible course of action.

I think that makes sense, and now I know where ‘media object’ came from.

Exactly, why reinvent the wheel!
