New Forum for Rapidweaver

@skaicaptain

Nothing is gone. All is here/there, in the old forum.
Now, all is new. I hope without spammers

I think @skaicaptain is worried about his post count.

@zeebe not at all :wink:

Why did I have to create a new account for this forum - my previous account login was not recognised. :frowning:

You need to create a new account because it’s a totally new system. There’s no way I know to automate this. And having RealMac enter the data ā€œby handā€ is not reasonable.

We’re requiring new registrations as the Spam filtering here is far better. Sorry for the inconvenience - we’re simply making a clean start with a more robust forum system to help keep the barrage of spam under control!

I’m still having problems receiving email notifications when new messages are posted on the forum, despite tagging them as watched subjects. Some come though but not others. I am using a gmail address and I just checked online but there is no sign of the replies anywhere.

I don’t know if they are getting lost in the mist somewhere or if Google is just deleting them automatically for some reason but I thought I should mention it. I may try switching to a non gmail address to see if that fixes it.

While typing this there was a reply to one of my posts but I only knew this because an OS X notification appeared for about two seconds. No email has come though.

Same here. Can you get rid of the old forum so that we are not able to access it anymore? I keep trying to log in via old links to the old forum and of course can’t sign in anymore, and it’s confusing. And I’m not getting email notifications either.

I am happy! (Moderator)
Now, there are ā€œno spamsā€, in the new forum.
The old forum is for all, we have written. A goldmine
Now, you must create a link to the new forums.

The old forums are dead and buried but I can see why Realmac wants to keep them there incase people search Google looking for information. Forum users just need to update our bookmarks, which is no big deal.

I have been receiving email updates today after changing my forum email so that it no longer goes through Gmail.

I can’t log with my previous account, am I alone?

No that’s normal. You have to create a new account. It’s a completely new start for everybody.

So we lose our badges :joy:

Yes it’s scandal I know but on the bright side we also lose the spam

Yes, you are right.
Now, we delete and banish 3 spammers in 3 days.
In the old forum we made this in 10 minutes.
… and I lost my nine year badge and more than 10’000 posts in all previous forums.
But, I am happy

Hmm 10,000 posts in 9 years. Some spammers seemed to manage that in a morning on the old forum.

Very nice new forum. It’s a pity, though, that the content of the ā€œoldā€ forum is lost. There was a lot of content that is still valid (code snippets etc)…

  • Update: Seems as if the ā€œoldā€ content is still available. That’s cool! Thanks!

Really, really nice new forum here! Thanks @dan

But… why no more exists an area for German (and maybe other languages) and why were German posts obviously deleted here, as already been mentioned from others here.

One area for each language, as in the old Forum, is technically not a problem within the existing structure, the area can be supervised by one or more Mods and the rw-community stays together (for me the most important point). I think it’s just not ok, that german users/buyers must make their own forum for your product, although you have already built this cool new forum @dan

As a long-time customer, I hope it is possible to initiate a critical and open discussion here @ realmac about the language-topic. And yes i know, my english is pretty bad…

Thanks, Matt

@binarydog As a German, I do understand you point. There are some elements, though that I’d like to bring up here:

  1. Your English is absolutely fine!
  2. By nature, there is more meat in the English forum due to the number of active users in those regions. That means that we Germans would have to search in two forums in case we need support and are less likely to find solutions in our own language, anyway.
  3. Most (but 2 or 3) of the third party developers don’t speak German. That means that we cannot @ them in to gain their attention and get questions answered. That means that directly including them in a German thread would be useless. Putting questions in English within a German thread is awkward.
  4. It is more likely for Germans to speak English sufficiently than the other way around. That means that the German thread has no value to most of our English friends while we benefit from their work.

My suggestion would be:
German section: Yes. For everything NOT relevant to the 3rd party developers. Anything else (such as questions related to Stacks, extensions and/or themes) should go into the English section.
Alternatively, we might want to employ a translation plugin? Might be a solution. It’s quick and dirty but should do the trick to help our English peers and developers understanding the content. Just an idea.

Genau das ist der Grund für einen eigenen deutschsprachigen Bereich. Und zwar in diesem Forum.

(Entschuldigung, dass ich deutsch schrieb. Es musste sein. Kann also gelƶscht werden)
