Opinions sought - for Foundation site

Thanks Jason - sorted on the test site (which will translate to the main one shortly)

I donā€™t worry much about whatā€™s in or out, it changes all the time. Most UX (user experience) studies show user will be more likely to navigate sites when itā€™s in a place they are looking for. Right or wrong main site navigation is usually at the top or left side.

FYI: I purchased the poster stack earlier today.I havenā€™t done much yet with it but you did a great job with it.

Iā€™m not at my RW computer to check but, if you uncheck ā€˜full width menuā€™ from the Top Bar settings, does that help?

Thanks Doug, Poster stack is a really impressive product, following on from my favourite Gallery 3

Jason it doesnā€™t, sadly - I have now removed all trace of mobile menus from the desktop site (I hope!)

OK test site is ready to look at: http://nickwb.com/test

I need to work out text colour for sub menus, but it is working. Is the logo too big?

Iā€™m new to this conversation but here is my 2 cents.
I like the site and in general I like the look.
I would suggest a slight tint for the menu (especially the drop down as it ends up as text over text sometimes.
On first load there was a flash one image showed then the page loaded. may want to consider turning on site preloader.

Thanks Scot - preloader is now on - never used it before!

Tints I want to avoid. Iā€™m looking for a better menu solution. Has anyone got an idea how to do something like this? A dropdown panel comes down with multiple galleries etc

@teefers @DaveFox This is an interesting development - looking through all my menu stacks I found ā€œOff Canvasā€ while looking for a side menu.

Check out http://www.nickwb.com/test/ - but only the first page. Doug, I totally know where you are coming from, but this is pretty, clean and maximises platform efficiency  Dave, it does mean more clicks, but hey little mouse movement (@webdeer)

Iā€™m not sure it is the answer, but love the minimalism (if only my kids were so tidy - open cupboard, close cupboard!)

Now if anyone knows how to make the big menu I screen grabbed aboveā€¦

You can do something similar with a combination of TopBar set to top lvl only and inline or subnav set to active sub nav only

Scott, that looks really interesting (and complex) I did not know such things were possible. Iā€™ll take a look in the morning

Thank you!

@NeilUK I have just checked the tags for the Blog - I have spent too much time in Adobe Lightroom where adding a series of tags like: photo, snow, bear, print creates 4 separate Tags. Not so in Poster. My mistake!

Mmm? - Checked front page on 2 colour corrected monitors - this is what I see - canā€™t see Menu text (it is there in screenshot, just!)

@NickWB Currently the best large menu system is the amazing BWD PopDrop set to mega menu mode. You can see it in action at http://webdeersign.com/pr5demo1/ where I used such a setup. This type of menu can contain anything you like.

However, I think that a conventional menu that takes your customers or clients to the important areas, that is always visible in high contrast large text, is more important for your type of site. For these reasons, I created this type of menu for a photography - see Project at http://webdeersign.com/pr7demo1/. I feel it is important that the visitors to that site see the main areas of photography services without having to click anything. Otherwise you risk a visitor making a judgement on the images in the slider and leaving the site before exploring it further with multiple clicks.

@DaveFox Hardly there. I could not work out what was going on, but it is now replaced anyways. Interestingly, I found the exact functionality (mobile menu, slideout) on a major TV recruitment site this morning (not RW created), so it is obviously mainstream.

@webdeer very helpful indeed, thank you. I do love the sunset demo page, but most interesting was your point:

Very, very significant and something that is easily overlooked. I have already cut the image size dramatically for faster loading (thank you @ricinport) and Iā€™m thinking of reducing the number of images on the slider too. More work to do, but tonight, I give my eyes a break.

Nice one, menu looks good and works well.

Cheers Dave. Not too bad. Giving it a break for a few days and then a CMS to addā€¦
:pensive:
In the meantime Iā€™ll get on and make more pictures smaller

Hi Gary, where can I find the BWD PopDrop set?

Cheers

Product page https://www.bigwhiteduck.com/stacks/popdrop/

Demo & instructions: https://demo.bigwhiteduck.com/popdrop/

Although for mega menus, the forthcoming (hopefully next week) ButtonBar stack is much more suitable. You can see it in action on the Learn Menu on this site. It is fully responsive and turns into an accordion for mobile which PopDrop does not.

Ok thanks so much Andrew.
Secondly where can I find the ButtonBar stack when available?
(mobile friendly first)

T.

@tav there needs to be a quick ā€˜add email addressā€™ pop-up to be notified when available

Looking very usefulā€¦
