🎉 RapidWeaver CMS Course — Learn how to edit RapidWeaver sites online

@jabostick
Thanks for the suggestion of a pre-made site in TCMS. That may well be a good option as I have not begun on the site in question yet.

Mary

Well, sadly, I paid for the course and can’t get it to work past the first publish. When I go to the published demo (http://kinetigraf.com/pulsedemo), instead of seeing something “nice” like in the demo, all I get are PHP include errors like:

Warning: include(./resources/pulsecms4/content/blocks/home/banner-title.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/newtri6/public_html/kinetigraf.com/pulsedemo/index.php on line 161

Yes:
pulsecms4/config.php:
$path = ‘/resources/pulsecms4’;

Yes:
pulsecms4 is in the resources of the project.

And although I can go the pulse admin page, it does not logon even with the default and unchanged “demo” password.

http://kinetigraf.com/pulsedemo/resources/pulsecms4/admin/

Not impressed yet.

Hey Clay,

Could you email me, ben realmacsoftware.com, and include you project file and I’ll take a look for you!

Cheers,
Ben

Just asking myself the following question: I have already some client sites using version 3.5.x of Pulse CMS together with RapidWeaver (using code snippets). Can I upgrade these installations to version 4.7 which I get from the free 30 day trial of Pulse using the same serial numbers (exchanging the snippets with the stacks from inStacks)? In short: can the SNs for v3.5.x be used for v4.7?

Hi - do you have the banner-title.txt file added? In video 2 at around 11.27 in it talks about adding this file/block.

Thanks Fred @smokyhills - yes if you already own 4.x licenses - yes the tutorials work for Pulse 4.7! :slight_smile:

Please cc me on the email to Ben @claycle
It looks on face value that your “blocks” folder is missing off the server?
See @Rim21Tech comment: 🎉 RapidWeaver CMS Course — Learn how to edit RapidWeaver sites online

Yes @RapidBase it should be easy to swap out the code snippets you have already with the Stacks from @instacks and this video tutorial, and to update all your sites to 4.7 :slight_smile:

But regarding the serials, you’ll need to use the new serials generated via the serial activation in your club account with this version of 4.7 (more info on that here)

Happy RapidWeaver Pulsing everyone! :zap::tada:

PS - the feedback I’m hearing from the course is that it’s excellent and really helpful in setting up Pulse+RapidWeaver - so well done @bon!! :medal_military:

@yuzool Thanks Michael. Where can I get a version of 4.7 which I can use with my current installations without the club account? I already did sign up to a newsletter of you which said that I would be sent or get the download link for such a version (can’t exactly remember the details), but never got this “non-cloud-version” of 4.7…

This course is now available to RapidWeaver Community subscribers — just make sure you’re logged in and visit the Online editing with Pulse CMS page.

Enjoy :slight_smile:

I am just following the video from start to finish. This error occurs immediately after the first publish (at 7.18). I would presume everything would look like the tutorial at this point (at 7.22).

When what I was doing failed to match what the video showed, I stopped and backtracked to figure out what I might have done wrong. Seeing that I had done nothing (obviously) wrong, I posted a question. I haven’t gotten to minute 11 yet.

Based on the input from another post, I ftp’d in and checked to see if those banner*.txt files were missing. They were.

I suggest the demo video be updated (or at least commented in postscript/README) that if you see those errors after the first publish, you need to manually add banner-title.txt and banner-slogan.txt to your pulsecms4 folder to get moving along.

OK, so this is some key info! The reason you’re seeing an unexpected error is because you’re using the finished project file — if you keep watching the video and following along, you’ll learn how to create the .txt files that are missing.

The banner*.txt files won’t be there because you haven’t created them yet — we do this in the videos. As I said above, keep watching and everything will click.

I can see the confusion here, and with hindsight perhaps I should have provide both the project I started working on and the final project we end up with. I’ll keep that in mind for next time :slight_smile:

P.S. Do let me know if the project I sent you fixes the login issue, and let me know if I can help with anything else!

I would also be interested in understanding the issue with the Admin login page. I originally had this problem but performed many different things and at the end I couldn’t be sure which thing I did actually fixed the problem. I want to say that moving the modified .htaccess file to the root was the fix but not certain.

It was sent out Matthias - I’ll re-send you now :slight_smile:

Any new sites will require new serials via the Pulse CMS Club account :zap::+1:

Thanks for the support, Michael. Got it. So now I can upgrade some of the old 3.5.x sites to 4.7 sites, using the same keys. Great!

You can still purchase single licence pulseCMS from sites like mighty deals.com. Not sure how long this will last but at $20 it’s not a bad option to try out pulseCMS

With feedback from users who just want to try Pulse before committing to a monthly plan, we’ve brought back the single license solo plan and added it to the upgrade page:

https://upgrade.pulsecms.com

Thanks for all the feedback :pray::zap:

@yuzool Great to hear that we can buy single licenses again without having to join the club! But I have two questions:

  1. What about updates? If there should be an update to Pulse CMS 4.x (I’m not talking of v5): will I always get the latest version of 4.x for free or will I have to join the club to get updates?

  2. If I build client sites based on Pulse CMS while being in the club, paying monthly fees: what happens if I should go out of business (for what reasons ever) and won’t be able to pay for the club any more? Will my 10 or 20 client sites then stop working, so that my clients won’t be able to edit their sites anymore? Will each of these clients then have to join the club to be able to edit their sites again?

I assume the solo plan is for the self hosted option, correct? Never mind, it says that. Missed it the first time! Thanks for making this available!

@yuzool Michael, can you please give me a short answer to the two questions in my last post? I need this information for some decisions.
