RW 8.9.1 crashes on launch

As soon as I launch RW 8.9.1 it immediately crashes. It’s been working forever without any issues. I have made no updates to my Mac or RW lately. I woke it up this morning and discovered that the app crashed for some reason and when I double click the icon to launch it, it just crashes. I restarted, still does it. Deleted com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaver8 and reinstalled, still does it. Anyone know how to fix this?

Here is the crash log:

@dan have you for an idea?

Hold down “option” when launching RapidWeaver and try disabling all plugins and themes (keep the Reset Project Window checked), does that help?

Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, it does not give me that popup when I hold down Option while launching. It immediately pops up the crash dialog when I double click the icon.

Perhaps RapidWeaver got corrupt updating… Can you try removing RapidWeaver from your system and re-installing it.

You can Download RapidWeaver here.

You could also try downloading an early build of RapidWeaver and see if that works from here: RapidWeaver Release Notes

I tried 8.9, 8.8.3, 8.7. They all immediately crash. I was about to give up and then I jumped back to 8.6 and that worked. I thought I could then upgrade to 8.9.1 and it would fix itself but it crashes again. I rolled back to 8.6 again. I guess I’m stuck there for the time being. I still have no idea what changed on my Mac to cause this to start happening. I have automatic OS updates turned off.

Hello ryemac,

I had a problem with Rapidweaver that , on the surface, seems to be similar to yours.
Rapidwaeaver crashed every time I opened it, but some old versions worked.
I found a strange solution that worked for me:
I named the new version of Rapidweaver 8.9 (at that time it was 8.8). Than that version worked. When I named it simply Rapidweaver 8, it crashed.
I left it to that title (Rapidweaver 8.8) until about one month ago and everything was fine.
Sounds weird, I know, but it is easy to try.

That is a strange fix. Unfortunately, it does not work for me. I already tried changing the app name.

@ryemac3 Kevin,
I noticed you are running 10.14.6, I have that running on one Mac as well and have no problem with the latest release of RapidWeaver.

There used to be a KB article on how to do a “complete” uninstall of RapidWeaver. Unfortunately, in the last rework of the Knowledge base. That is no longer there. (@dan?)

There is obviously more to RW than what’s just in the Applications folder. There are some other steps (deleting things from the Library, etc) that need to be done to do a complete uninstall.
That would be my next step for both of you(@aikonn , @ryemac3 ). Do a complete uninstall and then do a clean install.

I use AppZapper to uninstall and the only file it flags as an association is com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaver8

I don’t have AppZapper so I don’t know if it may have missed something. It probably didn’t, so I think this is going to be one for Realmac Support to look at the Crash log for you.

I’d put the log file out along with the project file and addons. You may have to put them on a shareable cloud server (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc., etc.) and pass them a link. You might include a link back to this post as well.
