RW Classic 9.6.3 - Publishing = Crash

After years of using RapidWeaver Classic (now 9.6.3) without any issues I am now having problems when I publish my one and only website. Sometimes it crashes immediately other times it gets to 90% then crashes but it is crashing every time during publishing. I really don’t know where to start looking for problems… Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

Hi @Macsterguy,

If RapidWeaver crashes, macOS will offer you to download a crash report. If you do that, and then post it here, we can have a look at what’s causing the crashes.

In general - it’s usually a plugin that doesn’t play nice with the latest patch in macOS. Make sure you have the latest versions of all plugins. That includes individual stacks (if you use Stacks of course).

Cheers,
Erwin

@Macsterguy

here you can find all the information about RW Classic 9.6.3 - Publishing = Crash], as well as all known issues and details on how to fix them.

First, thanks for your offer to help me with this…

I have been wanting to move to Elements but I’m a little concerned that at my age, I’m not up to the task. I’ve been having memory issues etc. I’ve been at this for a long time. My website is www.jonesx-ray.com.

Yesterday, there was an update for stacks when I first launched RWC… I applied that update. Later, I “re-published all files”. After that is when I had my first crash.

This morning, reading thru this thread I saw where Dan posted about a Stacks beta for this problem so I downloaded and installed the beta vs: 5.3.3b1

I re-published all files again. The result was another RWC crash.

** now, when I tried to include the crash logs it says it’s too big?

We’ve got your crash reports and are looking into it now.

As a workaround, have you tried exporting locally and uploading via a third-party FTP client?

Thank you for your response Dan, things are getting difficult for me but I think I could figure out how to upload manually. I might give it a little time to see what you come up with…

You did not indicate you are using Tahoe, where issues came about due to its release. If you are on an earilier OS, you should not have any issues with crashes. I have not had any crashes even with my uploading the new Stacks 5.3.3. Hopefully the issue will be simple, as I sympathize with the age issue. I forget things before I even remember them.

Thanks for all the info on this, and for submitting the crash reports. I can see from the crash reports that you’re on macOS Tahoe, and I have narrowed down the problematic code.

Apple altered the runtime in macOS Tahoe to crash more consistently when issues are encountered. This helps developers identify and fix root causes more quickly, but it can also make the operating system seem less stable, since crashes are now more apparent.

We’re working on a fix and will have it out as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!

@Macsterguy We’ve just shipped RapidWeaver Classic 9.6.4, this new build fixes various instability issues under macOS Tahoe.

Can you update and let me know if that fixes your publishing issue?

Yes Sir!

Will I see it in RapidWeaver / Check for updates?

Or do you have a link?

You should be prompted in-app

I rebooted both of my Macs but did not see the update in RapidWeaver. I downloaded the update using your link. I republished all files of my website and RapidWeaver crashed.

Then I went to publishing settings and slowed down the Upload speed from lightning fast too fast. Walla! All seems well! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and I will upgrade elements as soon as I can get my brain wrapped around it.

I guess I spoke too soon. When republishing all files, RWC crashes…

Can you slow the speed - start with the lowest option and try again?

Great minds think alike! I just went to the slowest speed end it worked… :+1:t3:

Now, when I go to my website, Safari or any other browser, I have is not able to contact the server

This is crazy… One minute it will, one minute it won’t. Something is wrong at chili dog hosting I guess…

We’ve just shipped 9.6.5 that fixes additional stability issues under macOS Tahoe. Enjoy!
