It looks like Nick Cates has cleaned up his offerings. If I were to guess, it was because his legacy themes may not take advantage of all of the features in RW8.
That being said, at least for Nick’s work, I still use several of his legacy themes in RW8 with no problems, including Fortress.
I did find a few common answers in his new knowledge base. Did you have a specific question about Fortress that isn’t covered there?
I am very impressed with with@Dan’s response. The Rapidweaver community is fortunate to have so many great developers involved in making addons. It is important for all developers to service what they sell. It is vastly different to police products on the App Store. Apple will issue a refund in full immediately for products that don’t work as you expect. I have bought a dozen items over the years that I received full refunds for. When you make a purchase on the App Store Apple fully stands behind your purchase. Realmac isn’t even involved in the transaction.
There is no excuse for not supporting your products. If a customer is unhappy a refund should be given for faulty or outdated products. I realize that people could potentially be using an older version of Rapidweaver. Products that fit this niche should only be available on the developer’s site. Products offered in the Realmac marketplace should all work in the current version of Rapidweaver.
That could be a box that must be checked when a developer goes to list the product in the marketplace.
Realmac is a great company that is very good to 3rd party developers. The Realmac marketplace is a win/win so long as product listings are modified to include that the product works with the latest Rapidweaver product.
3rd party developers are also very good. They will benefit from a policy like this as well. People who visit the marketplace will know that the product they purchase works! A bad buying experience from a bad developer could cost a good developer a sale.
I did not name nor wish to imply any developer is bad. This includes any developer who may have been named in this thread. I am talking theoretically…
Yes, transferring files to a new Mac comes with a whole lots of problems. When I tried to find a lost tsooj stack (now defunct), William Woodgate from STACKS4STACKS shared this information about using Apple Migration Assistant with me, I quote below:
Hello Monica,
I have actually had good success with using the Apple Migration Assistant in the past, when I have had hard drives failed or needed to move things to a new computer. Always found it fast and reliable.
Good to use if you want to clone the entire contents of one computer to another.
It is located in Finder > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant
All my RapidWeaver themes and stacks are setup in a way, as to allow any license info to be carried over automatically. This saves you from needing to manually download everything again. Quite a few addon developers do the same.
I searched and found some video’s on YouTube that explain how to use the Apple Migration Assistant:
A cheap Thunderbolt cable or Cat-6 Ethernet cable from Amazon is recommended, to help the process go much faster. Otherwise USB 2 or WiFi takes many days for the transfer to complete!
Interesting retort. There are many different ways rapidweaver could seek monies from developers. Do you not think that anything you put on your site is your responsibility? It does not matter what I put on my site, I take responsibility for everything on any of my sites.
