Where's the developer forum?

Recently the feedback forum gets flooded with developer questions. According to the docs there should be a dedicated developer group / forum where those topics would make more sense (to me).

Those links in the docs do no longer work. Is there no forum for developer questions and discussions anymore?

Elements is a little different from Classic; it makes building custom components a lot more accessible. So much so that we don’t believe there should be a separation between regular users and so called “developers” — everyone is a user, and every can be a developer. I’ll update the docs to reflect these changes.

Coding questions will generally be confined to the Component Development category, but they sometimes spill over into the general category for Elements. I think, over time, things will settle down, and we’ll get into a good rhythm here on the forum.

I think I disagree with this approach. There are really three types of users in my mind:

  1. Those that only use the supplied components.
  2. Those that build their own Custom component.
  3. Those that build out devpacks (entirely new components).

The questions that come up with each group are different, and in my experience #1’s who get shown too much #3 abandon a product because they think it’s too complex.

You really need to develop (and support, which is the point of this thread) each type of user individually and directly. You also need to show #1’s how to become #2’s over time, and #2’s how to become #3’s if they want to go even further.

There’s a further thing you’re not fully anticipating, I think. And that’s once we start getting lots of third-party components, themes, additions, etc., these are going to trigger even different support needs.

Now I don’t know how I’d structure all of this in open fora, but I fear that the “dump everything into one forum” approach is going to be problematic. You haven’t even gotten to what I’d call a full, real beta yet and today I found almost 20 threads to look at across all three of the categories I noted above. What happens when you’ve got two orders of magnitude more real users of the final product? I fear it’s going to get messy.

Okay, you raise some valid points that give us a lot to think about.

The Elements Category does have several subcategories, but perhaps we need more  We’re open to suggestions – what would you like to see?

Here’s what we have so far:

Yeah, that’d be me. I already visit and read less because of that.

I must say the amount of ‘tech talk’ regarding custom components is a little overwhelming atm.

I can understand, that but I think things will settle down. If you think we need more categroies on the forum to help seperate things out, we’re open to suggestions!
