A few ideas for blog tagging with the new system

In a recent video Ben asked for feedback on the new blogging functionality. Perhaps one of the biggest things to improve on over Alloy for me is how you work with tags. One of the biggest reasons to use a blog over a standard webpage is that I am able to filter posts by tags.

There are a couple of limitations to the way Alloy did it. I’ve used tools that let me select more then one tag which Alloy couldn’t do. The idea being that you can really narrow down to a specific subject especially if there are an enormous number of blog posts.

Another advantage of doing it this way is that you could then send a link which is based around the selection of tags. Which to me is a really interesting filtering idea. Also the way tag clouds can get larger if they have more posts can be very useful if one tag is greatly more populated then another.

Lastly the way that Alloy would auto-log you out was annoying. If you didn’t realize that would happen it could result in so much work getting lost. One benefit of working locally is that you could start filling out some blog ideas before the site even goes online.

Often times I’ll work on site ideas for months before posting them online and it is nice to put those right into the blog instead of having to store them in a word processing document for months and then hunt down each article as I am then posting them to the remote blog.

It will be intriguing to see how elements works as it starts into this area as well!

We support multiple tags

I added support for Tag listings last week, which I will demo in a new video this week.

You can filter a Collection by tags, authors, dates, featured status, published status (draft/published) — best of all you can mix and match these as you wish

We’ve not started on the online editing, yet, but you can be sure that we will have a nice system that won’t auto-log you out!

Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it
