Hello, all. So, I finished my first Elements site (my own company site) and I’d like to add a news/blog to it but don’t see a quick and easy way to do so. On my old Foundry 3 site, I used Alloy, which after initial setup, was very easy to work with. Can anyone direct me to a way to add news/blog functionality to my site? Thanks!
Look at the microblog project and play with it a bit. You’ll see that you need:
- A page with a collection component (pointers to blog posts)
- A page that’s not in the menu/viewable that contains the way an individual blog post looks.
- A cms folder in which your blog posts are contained. These posts need to be Markdown files (.MD).
That’s the base structure, but there’s a lot of nuance and bits that you’ll have to learn to create your blog and make it look exactly the way you’d like. Moreover, there are still pieces of the content management system that are missing or need a bit of work from Realmac. Nevertheless, if you take the microblog project for a spin and try adding content to it, you’ll get the hang of it pretty quick.
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like this will be a bit more complicated that using Alloy on my old site but will take a look at it. Hopefully we eventually get something that’s just drag, drop, and use.
Absolutely use microblog… I was struggling with it… not a programmer - not a full time web developer…
Now I’m up and running - Tech blog Technitrox.com
Post on here with questions - many will help you…
Depends upon what you mean by “drag and drop.”
As I’ve noted elsewhere, I’m using OneMarkdown to create MD files. I then drag them into the proper folder in Elements, and voila, blog. It’s really in the set up that most people tend to struggle. Also, you need to make sure you understand YAML and do the right things in the .MD file at the top.
Any videos on Youtube or info in the manual about the Microblog?
