Aspen Theme Social Icons look like a square

I’ve had the dubious pleasure of having to update my website (from Writer theme in 2015) recently.
Now using Aspen theme and am wanting to insert social icons for links to my social media sites. For some reason the icons just look like squares in previews. Have followed the instructions to the letter on the realmacsoftware.com Aspen Theme FAQ and there doesn’t seem to be an obvious solution in previous threads.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to make them display properly?

Update

I’ve managed to get it to work by restarting RW, deleting the code from Settings>Code>Body and reinserting them

Now my Navigation menu has disappeared!
