I have a client company which has to keep onside with both US and EU trade sanctions in certain parts of the world. They wish to start selling software and services online but want to prevent sanctioned countries from purchasing. Anyone know how this might be achieved? Obviously we can put instructions to this effect and also add a mandatory drop-down country list where the specified countries are missing. However, experience shows companies will try to purchase anyway they can and this could lead to problems for my client. Refusing the sale and refunding is of course an option but will likely incur % fees which would be fairly high as their software is expensive.
Don’t own it but might be worth a look
Interesting but it looks the wrong way around for my needs. We need to block just a handful of countries from purchasing - the rest of the planet is fair game!.
Looks like basic IF/ELSE setup, so you should be able to target specific countries that won’t get a “purchase” option, whilst everyone else does. Not clear if you can target multiply countries to say no to.
Maybe @joeworkman can answer better
Idk… you can get around most of the automated geo location, ip location stuff with a vpn.
Yes. GeoTarget is a simple IF/ELSE. If you are using Cloudflare, then there is a CF version of the stack (both ship inside) that is pretty accurate and they claim to be able to see through people’s VPN ip addresses.
If you have Control Panel, you should be able to block ranges of IP addresses. There are rather a lot of them, though!
Cartloom allows you to set which countries you are willing to sell to.
