Ben has already published a few videos on the subject of CMS, but somehow it all misses the point of blogging.
It’s nice when Elements works so conveniently - but unfortunately it’s no use at all if you absolutely need a blog. A blog that can be used by “any” authorized person. And these are usually people with a lot of other expertise, but no programming!
I would be interested to know whether there are any plans to create something that meets these requirements. And if so, when is it to be implemented, or when will it be ready?
There is a “road map”, but firstly it is completely confusing and secondly you can’t see what progress is being made.
It is important to have this information for planning new websites!!!
There’s a distinction between display blog posts and creating them. What’s been demonstrated so far is displaying them.
Ben has clearly said that there will be an extra cost program that allows users to create the blog material (markdown documents managed and placed appropriately in your site’s directory). But you can also do that today if you know what you’re doing. I’ve been playing with using One Markdown to simply save into a server folder in anticipation of getting the CMS component in Elements.
I’d disagree with you about no road map or confusing. Ben’s been pretty clear from the start, and he’s shown that he is clearly open to additional suggestions along the way. When he delivers on all those promises, we’re going to have a CMS system unlike any that’s come before for static sites (most CMS you used with a static site was really database driven, or active).
The first version of the CMS will allow you to build a traditional blog directly within Elements. You’ll simply create a folder of Markdown files and use a Collection component to list them out. I cover this setup in detail in my recent CMS preview videos.
To create new blog posts, you’ll be able to add a new Markdown file directly within Elements, making it easy to manage your content from inside the app.
Looking ahead, we’re planning to release a set of Online Editing components for the CMS. These will let you log in via any browser to create, update, or delete blog posts — as well as any other CMS-managed content.
That said, I want to be 100% transparent: the online editing functionality will come at an additional cost. There’s a significant amount of work involved in building and maintaining a secure, full-featured online CMS, and we want to ensure we can support it properly over time.
Timeline
Right now, we’re working hard to get the core CMS components into the app — we’re aiming for release within the next couple of weeks. Once that’s in place, we’ll shift our focus to developing the online editing features.
Danke für die Belehrung, aber das war mir vorher auch schon klar!
Anyway - I’m sorry, but I haven’t heard something about extra cost programs. Maybe he said this in one of his Videos. If so, it is easy to write a small note, like “We will have an extra cost program for blogging in 3, 6 or 9 month”. Maybe that’s how I would have done it. But ok - I’m not an employee of realmacsoftware.
Anyway - thank you for your answer!
