Bug in Upgrading to RW 7

Hi, I’m in the process of upgrading from RW 5 to RW 7. In order to avoid problems, I’ve been following the instructions from Realmac’s Dan Counsell carefully.

https://help.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver-7/upgrading-from-rapidweaver-5-or-6

Before going from RW 5.3.1 to RW 5.4.1, I verified that my plugins were all updated. Then I upgraded to RW 5.4.1 and saved all my sites in RW 5.4.1. Then, as instructed, I purchased, downloaded and launched RW 7.

At this point, RW 7 (Actually RW 7.5.5) was supposed to ask me whether I wanted to copy my add-ons. That didn’t happen. In fact, if I look under the RapidWeaver 7 top drop-down menu, there is an option to “Copy Addons from RapidWeaver 6….” but that option is greyed out and non-functional.

How do I properly copy all of my addons from RW 5.4.1 to RW 7.5.5?

Although Dan’s instructions don’t mention it, do I actually have to upgrade from RW 5.4.1 to RW 6 before I can move to RW 7.5.5?

If that’s the case, where can I download RW 6?

Please let me know the best way to proceed. Any help will be sincerely appreciated.

What operating system are you running? You need at least Yosemite to install and use RW 5.4.1. If it is macOS High Sierra, for a full compatibility, you need RW 7.5.5.

There is a detailed instruction on how to upgrade from 5 to 7 on a page you’ve just referenced in your post. You should be able to upgrade directly from 5.4.1 to 7.5.5.

All versions of RW available for download can be found here: https://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/releasenotes/

Between versions 5 and 7 RW has changed the location of add-ons. The current location is ~/Users/yourname/Library/Containers/com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaver/Data/Library/Application Support/RapidWeaver.

Some people just copy their old add-ons to that location. My preferred way of installing them is to drag them (one-by-one) onto RW’s icon in the dock.

Another way to install your plugins/themes/stacks a little faster is to open the folder where both are kept.

RW 5 keeps the items here:
~/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/RapidWeaver

RW 7 is listed above, but you can also just open RapidWeaver 7 and do this key combo
Command+Option+7
and that will open the folder. This also works for RapidWeaver 6.

Once both folders are open, just drag and drop from one to the other. Do note, that the way plugins work changed from 5 to 6/7 so some plugins you have might need upgrades to work, some will not work at all if there is no update available.

Hi Rob D,

Thank you so much for your kind response. I am current running Sierra 10.12.6. Next week I will be upgrading to High Sierra.

In order to find and copy my addons from RW 5.4.1 to RW 7.5.5, I was able to open the appropriate folders as follows:

For RW 5.4.1
Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library > Application Support > RapidWeaver

For RW 7.5.5
Open Rapidweaver 7 and hit Command + Option + 7 (as suggested by Robert Ziebol)

Once I had these two folders open, it was a simple matter to copy the files (one at a time) from the RW 5 folder to the RW 7 folder.

Many of the stacks (including those from Joe Workman, NimbleHost and Blueball Design) are now displaying and working in RW 7. Others (such as YabDab’s FormSnap and CartLoom) are only displaying as generic orange icons in RW 7 “Manage Icons” section. Perhaps I will have to contact the initial providers for updates. What do you think?

Also, when I copied all of my addons to RW 7, many themes from NimbleHost (e.g. Mirage, Glide, Qube) were included. However, when I open RW 7, they do not show up with the other themes. Any suggestions for how to bring them in?

I think ThemeFlood took over NimbleHost’s themes, you should contact them about why they are not working.

Thanks, Robert Z.
It looks like former NimbleHost themes such as Mirage, Glide and Qube are now available on SeyDesign.com. I will check with them about updates.

Hi, Gerald,

You’re on the right track. Just contact developers of those add-ons that are not appearing in RW7. Most of them (if not all) should be available in updated form compatible with the new version of RW.

BTW, SeyDesign, RWExtras (and most stuff from NimbleHost) is now run by the same developer as Stacks4Stacks and ThemeFlood. @willwood is very helpful, but he is on vacations till June 15.
