Can we offer our clients a 'log how many clicks on your button' option?

Hi all,

My site is here: http://www(dot)sps(dot)uk(dot)com

My client is asking if there is a way to log the clicks on her sidebar area, so that she can keep track of how many people click on the ‘Gate’ button and the ‘Our Blog’ button.

Is there a way to do this?

Hi @Gabrielle,

It sounds like you want something like this: https://sumome.com/app/heat-maps/

I haven’t used it personally but I know the folks at ConvertKit have recommended it in the past.

Alternatively you could add an identifier to the links in the sidebar, something like /blog?utm_source=sidebar then monitor it in Google Analytics.

Hope that helps,
—E

I’m pretty sure that @Doobox used to have a stack for this but I can’t find it on his site anymore.

PiWik or Google Analytics are both free and are capable of achieving this level of analytics and more.

These are better options than a simple page counter because you can filter out spam bots and developers/designers.

Might want to take a look at my LinkTracker stack - as tracking number of clicks is what this stack is all about

My Sweet Button stack supports Google Events. This will allow you to track how many times a button is clicked nicely. I use it on my site. http://joeworkman.net/rapidweaver/stacks/sweet-button

Yeah, I made a stack a few years ago that was very similar to that “heat maps” link. But I could not make it responsive, when responsive became all the rage, so removed it.

Thank you all so much for your input! But will these options allow for my remote client to be able to see the results if she doesn’t have Rapidweaver? Or does it only show up in Rapidweaver itself?

PiWik and google analytics will allow you to grant permissions for the client to view the data.

Sweet Buttons leverages google analytics So the same applies.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this thread and thank you all for your advice on this one. Where exactly in Google Analytics can you find the information that tells you if someone has clicked on a particular graphic based link?

One other suggestion for tracking sidebar clicks…

I have ads in my sidebar. Each ad links to a separate RapidWeaver Offsite page that I set up. Each Offsite page of course goes to the advertiser’s landing page.

When someone clicks on an ad, they are first directed to the Offsite page for that ad, and then are immediately redirected to the advertiser’s page. Using Google Analytics or similar, I merely have to see how many times each Offsite page was clicked, to know how many clicks each ad got.
