After filling in the email address in the relevant slot it does not send the email. is there anything else I need to do after completing the comments page???

Most hosting providers demand that the mail address you use to send the contact form to, is in the same domain as your website. So if your website is reallycoolwebsite-dot-com, your address must end in @reallycoolwebsite-dot-com. If you use something else, like a Gmail address, it might not work. The symptoms you’d see then, are like you describe.
This way, the mailing script can’t be (ab)used to spam other people, but only to send mails to your own address.
Second: some hosting providers are blocking mailing scripts like the one RapidWeaver is using altogether, in a further effort to reduce spam. Check with your host if this is the case for you. If so, you have the option of switching to a host who does allow mailing scripts, or switch to a different form of contact page. There are third party plugins that will work around this blockade.
