Hi,
So… I maintain a couple of site, quite basic. I did upgrade last year to Classic.
I learned now that there was a schism (Dict:“when a single reigious body diveds and becomes two separate religous bodies”).
Anyway. I understand the new development of ELEMENTS as the attempt to include all functionality that STACKS and FoUNDRY and others had/have provided. Fair enough, will have to compete with BLocs, StacksFive and the pletora of Dreamweavers and similar software.
But, what was the matter with the separation of RW9 and RW Classic?
Once ELEMENTS will be ready, Classic and RW9 will not be updated?
Sites in Classic and RW9 will have to be rewritten?
Will ELEMENTS have the functionality that was in STACKS and FOUNDRY?
Thanks
I use RW Classic, I have investment in STACKS and FOUNDRY and ALLOY… and will ride out my time with them and in a couple of year probably decide to hire a third party to maintain my stuff…
RW Classic and 9 are the same thing. Not sure why it’s being called RapidWeaver Classic, RapidWeaver 9, and RapidWeaver Classic 9 in various channels. It does cause customer confusion.
To answer your question, RapidWeaver Classic (what I’m calling it forever) will continue to be developed alongside RapidWeaver Elements for a good long while. We understand there are a lot of users that will be maintaining legacy websites that they built with Classic and various third-party plugins. We’re not just going to abandon them as soon as Elements is released.
You should be able to continue to use Classic, Stacks, Foundry, and Alloy for your existing sites with no worries.
Going forward if you want to future proof your sites, you can look into migrating all your legacy websites over to Elements once it’s released and has all the features you need.
