Exception while previewing site

After upgrading from RW5 to RW6 I get the following message: Exception while exporting site. The page template of the current theme is empty.

In edit mode the site contents appear to be intact, but preview shows a blank page and the above error message.

Identical issues on macbook pro and imac - X 10.11, stacks 3. Had same issues on 10.9, so it’s not el capitan!

Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

Fixed! (well, mostly)

Various updates installed, plus communicating with theme developer (HV - very helpful and responsive). Now it’s a matter of fixing some of the weirdness that goes with major updates.
