File renaming application

Not technically related to Rapidweaver, but looking for a renaming tool like Bridge, though more specific. I need to rename files that are like this:
Melody+Benson-28r_thumb.jpg
Melody+Benson-28r.jpg
Melody+Benson-28r@2x.jpg
Melody+Benson-29_thumb.jpg
Melody+Benson-29.jpg
Melody+Benson-29@2x.jpg
Melody+Benson-33r_thumb.jpg
Melody+Benson-33r.jpg
Melody+Benson-33r@2x.jpg
Melody+Benson-50r_thumb.jpg
Melody+Benson-50r.jpg
Melody+Benson-50r@2x.jpg

to this:
urban-engagement-photography-01_thumb.jpg
urban-engagement-photography-01.jpg
urban-engagement-photography-01@2x.jpg
urban-engagement-photography-02_thumb.jpg
urban-engagement-photography-02.jpg
urban-engagement-photography-02@2x.jpg

etc.

I couldn’t figure out how to do this in Lightroom or Bridge where the # is in front of more customization, then the extension.

cool. thx Doug. Will read this now.

edit: works to an extent. But I have no way of renaming the _thumb that comes after the #s.

I don’t know how to get from this:

to this:
engagement-photographer-01_thumb,jpg
engagement-photographer-01.jpg

etc. the _thumb after the # is what is tripping me up.
field-#-field is what I need.

What Doug suggested might meet all your needs. I love A Better Finder Rename 10. Been using it for at least 10 years for a variety of needs. Worth a check:

Lisa: I was just going to reply. A Better Finder Rename is highly flexible. There’s almost nothing it can’t do: the limit will be your imagination about how to use the “tool” but the tool itself is very powerful.

Sounds like you found a good app… I’ve been using “Name Mangler” and I’m also going to check out Better Finder Rename. But I’ve used Name Mangler for years, most purposeful is renaming/renumbering page scans as I convert my paper books to ebooks :slight_smile:

The excellent FTP app Forklift has a powerful rename tool. Awell as being a first class FTP app itcan also do so much more and is also dual pane finder replacement.

I’ve used NameChanger for years. It’s totally free (although donations are appreciated), and can change in all sorts of combinations:

  • Replace First Occurrence
  • Replace Last Occurrence
  • Replace All Occurrences
  • Wildcard
  • Append
  • Prepend
  • Date
  • Sequence
  • Character Removal
  • Regular Expression
  • Change Case

But, I’m now off to have a look at @Mathew’s suggestion too.
