I'm Looking for a RW8 web designer

I’m seeking assistance with updating and modernizing my website, originally built using RapidWeaver 8. As someone with a background in graphic design and limited coding experience, I’ve relied on RapidWeaver for years due to its user-friendly, Mac-based platform. I no longer create websites for clients outside of my employer, and while my site’s content is where it needs to be, the layout and functionality require a refresh. My current theme is outdated and causing display issues. Additionally, my RapidWeaver add-ons are no longer up to date, and web coding has evolved beyond what I wish to learn.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • Migrate my RapidWeaver 8 file to a new, modern theme.
  • Integrate a real-time chat feature (such as phpBB) that can forward chats to my phone and, ideally, include AI chatbot functionality capable of learning from previous chats and escalating to a human as needed.

Please visit my current site at www.fbpep.com for reference. How much would you charge to assist with this project?

Are you certain that website link is correct?

You must be from a blocked country.
We were hacked and our clients are ONLY local in southern California . So we blocked all other countries except US and Canada

He’s using a Sucuri DNS A record, looks like it’s blocking UK IPs.

@tony2u, a lot of our forum users are from the UK and the EU. You will limit your options if you are only allowing US and Canada IPs to access your site.

I think they can still access it via VPN. I can contact Securi and unblock a country if need be. But the last hack was a bad one. We had a ERP on a subdomain and it wasn’t backed up and lost a lot of production work and CAD drawings. Took 3 months to rebuild. The owner locked it down.

Most hackers use VPNs, so all you are achieving here is discriminating and blocking genuine people from accessing your website, but still keeping the door wide open for hackers. Somewhere along the line, you’ve been fed some really bad advice!

Sounds like you need to have a security / website hosting expert on your side too, alongside a RapidWeaver coder / developer. Really you should be identifying and fixing the source of the original website hack, rather than band-aiding over it with a flimsy IP blocker.

If your request for a RW8 web designer is for US people only, you should change your original post to state that more clearly.

The hacks stopped after we switched to Securi. We are not losing out on any overseas business. We serve So-Cal only. We have all the business we need. The site is for those customers. Can handle the task at hand? I’m sure for you, you could do it in hours. I remember the days when I would have sites done in a few hours, But I couldn’t show the clients for a week or two because there’s a perception that I would have charged them $1,000 an hour. Now a days seems one in five people think they know how to make a website.

If I manually add HTTPS:// in front of the URL linked in the opening post, the site works fine. I’m in the EU by the way.

So Securi only blocks visitors from outside North America (minus Mexico) on the plain HTTP version of the site. It looks like the intended (false sense of) security layer doesn’t work as intended.

Cheers,
Erwin

Even better, when checking the HTTPS URL, VirusTotal shows 4 scanning engines flagging the website as malicious phishing:

The whole point of a Sucuri subscription is they are supposed to fix that stuff for you and request delisting.

I know we’re off-topic of OP’s original request, but if OP wants to hire a US or Canada based web developer for a site redesign, they should probably hire one that can also help with the security aspect as well.

To reply to your requirements @tony2u

  1. A lot of the times you don’t have to “Migrate” to a new theme, you just select a new theme in RapidWeaver’s theme drawer and your project file will be updated to that new theme. You might not even have to redo anything content wise, maybe all that would be needed is adjusting some theme settings like colors, widths, other features, etc.

  2. Regarding real-time chat, last time I checked phpBB doesn’t do that (phpBB is a forum software). You could try something like Tawk.to, it’s free and has a AI chatbot feature. Not too difficult to set up.

Should be an easy job for a web designer or developer here in the community.

Thank you for the advise. Are you applying for the job? That is what I am seeking. Someone other than myself to do it.

No, I work for RMS so offering or accepting paid services here would be a conflict of interest. Plus, I’m not a web designer, so your “refreshed” website would look the equivalent of drawing stick figures.

Best leave it to the professional and talented web designers here. :slightly_smiling_face:
