I’ve been looking at Nick Cates Designs themes. They are beautiful! I notice that he (they) do not use any hover action to open navigation sub menus. Is hover dead?
I do not feel that hover is dead. I really just depends on the design and whether or not its intuitive to the users if they are supposed to click.
The main reason for this is likely compatibility. While some mobile devices like the iPhone can translate a hover into a tap for a menu item, many Android devices do not support this whatsoever. I’ve run into this in the past as well. In fact it is the main reason that many of my themes now also use the click method instead of a hover input. It makes sure that your content is easily, and reliably accessed.
