Photos uploaded to server

RapidWeaver Elements b16 (22949)
when I publish and check my resources folder and the photos on my server there are 9 copies of each photo but only the 1 in the elements resources folder…seems to have created 1 for loads of breakpoints…RW Classic doesn’t do this

as you see only 4 photos in the elements resources bur loads on the server host

Are you using the Image component?

There is a File Size setting on the Image component that allows you tweak this - I believe the default setting will automatically resize the image for each breakpoint.

You can change this to Original and the original sized image will be served across all devices (I do not recommended this option).

You can also set a custom file size for each breakpoint, which gives you complete control over file size of the image on each breakpoint (I would recommend doing this if you are serious about page speed).

The Breakpoint option is a quick and easy option to get resized images for each breakpoint, but it may not be exactly what you want which is why we have multiple options for File Size.

Please note that the Image component is being completely overhauled and will be updated in the coming weeks!

Hi no it was just a gallery then dragged a folder into it…like I say in RW Classic it just adds 1 image to the server resource file and the breakpoints still work…I have plenty of space on the server just wondered why it was happening as it wasnt me that done it as it were

That’s not what responsiveness is about though. Using an image that looks good on a desktop, surely still looks good on mobile, but it could (and should) be smaller in size so mobile users don’t need to download the huge desktop versions that they don’t need to see on a mobile phone.

Heck, sometimes it even makes sense to use a cropped image for mobile so users don’t have to zoom in to see a detail that maybe is important but only easily to spot on a the desktop.

I have no idea what you’re going on about…all im saying is in RW Classic I have 10 image for example in my resource folder and when I upload to the server I still have 10 images in the resource folder on server…but when I do it in Elements I will have 90 images in the resource folder but still only have 10 in the elements resource folder…elements has created 9 for each image…NOT ME.

You really do have a rude attitude when people are trying to help you. Perhaps if you took the time to listen to what people are saying you’d be able to see why it’s designed the way it is.

As @pumpkin has said, this is to be efficient in serving the pages and is necessary to have a properly responsive site.

It’s so an appropriately sized image is sent to the appropriate device. It’s pointless sending a 150px wide image to a 2000px wide desktop and incredibly inefficient to send a 2000px wide image to a 150px wide phone screen.

Wordpress (and I’d assume Drupal, Wix, Squarespace, Joomla etc) all do this dynamic sizing. You drop a single file in and it creates all the different sizes for different devices. The additional sizes only appear on the server to keep the resources in the app lean.

And stop bringing up RapidWeaver Classic - this isn’t it. Elements does this in a completely different way. If you’re not happy, Classic is still there.

so tell me then why in ELEMENTS ive got 6 screen sizes in the Theme studio set and I copy an individual image I get 6 copies in the server resource file ( I understand) but if I copy a gallery and add a folder I get 10 copies of each in the resource folder, some have 11

I used Classic as an example and asked a question thats all!!! I dont use mobile sites. the site I create is for members only and its only for a desktop environment…and if by saying ''I have no idea what your going on about ‘’ is rude hang on to you seat pal…and did I say once I wasnt happy???
‘‘and stop bringing up classic’’. dont you tell me what to do either.

Because the File Sizing option is set to breakpoint by default. This will generate one image for each breakpoint configured in the Theme Studio.

To reduce this, select original if you only require the original file size to be used across all devices. This will then upload only the original file to your server, preventing multiple copies.

Please note that the Gallery component is still a work in progress.

Currently, the gallery automatically resizes your images for various uses—like thumbnails, mobile screens, desktop views, etc. This is why you see multiple copies uploaded to your server.

The Gallery and Image components handle resizing differently, as they serve distinct purposes. The Image component doesn’t resize images in the same automated way as the Gallery.
