Only way with a stack (that I know of) is this one by Stacks4stacks
https://stacks4stacks.com/mootable/
I’m not seeing any free versions of the forum that this stack uses as described in the documentation:
Maybe something like this would do the trick? https://www.phpjabbers.com/php-forum-script/
The forum part of Muut is free. If you sign up for the trial and don’t upgrade at the end of it (no action needed) then you just revert to the free forum only account.
You may end up liking Muut, but I find it a complete disaster. Almost impossible to follow threads or do meaningful searches. It’s a super simple forum. If you only have occasional discussions then it may be fine. I know a couple of developers who use it for their products and … well … there’s simply nothing nice to say about the experience. But if you like it then use it.
I’m not really sure what your needs are. With almost all forum software you can include a link in the header back to your website, and visa versa. That’s probably the simplest way to go and then you can have a “proper” forum coordinated with your website. It also opens up a lot of options for you.
actually - looks like they have abolished the free account a couple of weeks ago. Sorry for misleading.
unfortunately everything has a price. It would be nice if there were more free themes.
I am in favor of esotalk or its successor flarum (still in beta yet). It’s free, installable on prem, has a documented API and it is Open-Source. I am not fit in making addons for RW but if an addon developer would create something like stacks4stacks did with moot - this would be a great job!
